Free to a good home

Greetings!

I hope this finds you well as we approach peak darkness here in the North. I love this time of year because I am reminded that it is also peak lightness elsewhere.

It’s also a time of gift giving for some people. I am kind of neutral on this topic. Well okay I’m exaggerating. I’m actually super curmudgeonly and not at all into gift giving at this time of year. I broke my Christmas spirit about 17 industrial supply chain projects ago.

BUT! I am embracing new ways of being, while reminded that homemade gifts are really the best. So although I am a bit behind in my sock knitting (understatement), I thought would remind you of some of the written gifts I already gave you.

Hopefully they’re more on the, “They fit! I love them!” side of things. But if they’re in the, “Hideous 70s colours... I have no idea how to use this...” camp, feel free to simply regift or compost.

Okay, speaking of regifting, (with a dose of compost – see #8 below).

Top 10 Things I Already Gave You

I’m going to list the “Top 10 pieces” (according to me...) I gave away this year. I shared lots more articles, but these ones stand out based on feedback, reader stats, or some other magical composite of things that matter to me.

I’ll organize these into Believe, Learn, and Act since I find that’s a useful order of operations for meaningful change.

There’s also the table of contents at the end, where you can access all of this and much more — all free to a good home. I hope you like them. :-)

Believe

See, experience, notice and believe in an economy that works in service of life

One. Before, after (+ after!) transformation: Pocket (Forests) Full of More Change

Two. Resilience in action: Adan and Toninho: Decolonizing Regenerative Agriculture

Three. Humour might help if it all seems too much: Yes, please send me my starter pack

Learn

Interrogate the “known,” stay your course, experiment into the unknown

Four. Noticing the wider context: Why I wish I followed my instincts as a climate denier

Five. Key motivation tips: How to stay motivated when everything feels bonkers

Six. Learning how to unlearn: [Un]learning: A Story of [Un]matched Socks

Act

Do something differently, and then another thing, and then another

Seven. Climate action: Three ways you can stop corporate climate insanity

Eight. Sample CEO letter for when words do not align with deeds: Dear Mr. Hagedorn

Nine. New methods to assess impact: “Regenerative” versus Actually Regenerating

And so, for example...

... when we put believing, learning, and acting together

Ten. Conversation with author Patty Krawec: “What kind of world do we want?”

Table of contents

Remember if you aren’t a Medium member, I make all my stories available behind the paywall so if you see something you might like, you can access it for free. No strings attached. Not even a shiny ribbon.

Thanks for believing, learning and acting with me as we go here – for your feedback, insights, support, encouragement, ideas, openness, curiosity, sense of humour, and all round willingness to walk alongside on this unmarked trail towards industrial healing. I wish you well as we turn toward the next season and I look forward to seeing you along the trail up ahead.

Yours in connectedness,

Lorraine

I share a range of deep dives into relevant books, including most recently the interview with Patty Krawec, author of Becoming Kin.

Book reviews!

I organize a set of articles where I share “Matereality and other expensive (yet free!)” deliverables which you can access here.

Matereality ++ deliverables

I have a separate list of pieces that are a bit more “literary” – they are satire, poetry, fiction or something in between. They're all bundled here.

Satire + other mischief

P.S. If this newsletter was forwarded to you and you’d like to subscribe, please visit my website to be added to my mailing list. Thanks for joining me on this journey!

P.P.S. I updated my website with links to all previous newsletters, here, since you had to dig in your email or know where the magic door was before.

P.P.P.S. The image in the banner is from a delightful snowy walk along the river with a friend who was in town for COP15 from Brazil this month. It seemed only right to give her the gift of learning to make snow angels. She loved it.
