A picture taken of the St. Joseph Church on Madeline Island in the middle of the winter.  Before shovels were invented the Ojibwe and Father Baraga used their snowshoes to shovel out snow.  This photo was taken by the author in the year 2022 showcasing how deep the snow had the ability to get on Madeline Island where Father Baraga worked from the years 1835-1842 before moving to L'Anse.  This church was the second church that he built on Madeline Island and was rebuilt in the year 1902 after a fire.

All About Baraga

"All About Baraga" is a Youtube channel that will take you through the llife of Baraga year by year in his work with the Ojibwe.  Not only will you learn about Baraga's missions, but you will also learn about what was happening with the Ojibwe during that timeframe and the rapids changes they were going through.  This is a historic look at Father Baraga's legacy and his work among the Ojibwe.  If you subscribe below new videos will be made available to you as they are produced.

Plan Your Pilgrimage

 
Plan Your Pilgrimage is one of the most popular pages on the FatherBaraga.org site.  For this reason Plan Your Pilgrimage is getting a boost!! The goal is to provide a page for each location so that a person can see how Father Baraga and the Ojibwe are directly related to the point of interest!  In addition the Father Baraga site is working on actually creating a map so a person can go on a complete pilgrimage around Lake Superior and other regions to see the sites related to Father Baraga and the Ojibwe.  This is going to be an exciting addition to the site!

A Mile in his Moccasins

 
When I wrote for the Bishop Baraga Association there were people that reached out to me directly to say how much they appreciated my writing!!  I was beyond grateful to have heard from them and to see the work that they continued to bring forward in the world in regards to Baraga as well.  These personal notes inspired me to create a blog called "A Mile in his Moccasins".  The purpose of this blog is to be able to bring people to the timeframe when Father Baraga worked with the Ojibwe and to give them an up front and personal look at what the environment would have been like as well as the issues that he faced during that timeframe.  I want to have you walk with Baraga a mile in his moccasins to learn what it might have been like for him when working with the Ojibwe.  And yes...Father Baraga wore moccasins!

A Non-Profit for the Natives

Healing Wounds was inspired by the legacy of Father Baraga and his work among the Ojibwe.  It is a Christian non-profit designed to care for the Natives as Father Baraga had and inviting all people from all different faiths and backgrounds to support the work.  This non-profit addresses the issues of the Native populations today just as Baraga did when he worked among them.  Please click on the link below to learn more about Healing Wounds.

Bishop Baraga Association

I am always a fan of the Bishop Baraga Association and the endless work that they do on behalf of Father Baraga.  If you wish to help Father Baraga's canonization (steps to becoming a Saint) move forward, please go to their site and donate!  They also have a quarterly newsletter that they publish for a small cost that will allow you to read about upcoming events that they are holding as well as learning about the research for Father Baraga who became Bishop in the year 1853.
