ACES AND PLACES

Keith Begley has been over East travelling for competition, and Lily Fairclough recently took out the Women's Pro Tour Doubles title with her partner Liv Gadeki in the Swan Hill Championships. Way to go, guys!

Rob Murton was back in town visiting from Germany recently and caught up with a few old State League teammates at the Karalee Tavern. Much reminiscing was done although it seemed there was some exaggeration of how good we all were!!

Huge congratulations to Phil Cantwell on the birth of his son!

Kevin Cunningham and family are living it up in the US and send their best wishes for the new year and Winter Season.

Graham Walker has been claiming his shoulder is bung and can't play tennis, but we are glad he can still manage a round of golf and a few beers afterwards. Some are a little suspicious, Graham...

Denise McIntosh has been out of action after recent surgery but welcomed a surprise visit from her new granddaughter Cali. Big sister Zoe joined in for a visit on a trip over from Sydney to cheer her up!

Mike and Anna McLean are off on a European River Cruise to celebrate their Ruby Wedding Anniversary in April. Nic and Helen De Wolf are basking in the Golden Glow of 50 years together. Congrats!

Geof Thomas' knee has been keeping him from the courts and David Ford is recovering from a recent shoulder injury. We miss you guys, get down on Saturday and the boys will buy you a beer.

We have a new sponsor GA Kelly Electrical, big thanks to Anna Kelly and family for this hook up. Keep them in mind when you need some electrical work done.

March Birthdays: Carolyn Burton is coming up for the big 5-Oh. Bruce Long will be 60. Make sure you give them a big high five when you see them next!

Big shoutout to the Super Social Volunteers who week-in-week-out are there doing the sets, sorting the cuppas and keeping the bar cranking. Get along for a drink this Friday or Saturday!

Condolences to the Rundle Family for their recent loss, our thoughts are with you.

We have installed new shade sails in the walkway behind courts 7 & 8 using money raised from last years raffle and also from the Preston St IGA promotion "Locals Supporting Locals".  They look fantastic and will provide lots of extra shade and sun protection for spectators and players.

A big thank you to the Thomas Family for donating a brand new storage cupboard for our tennis bags.

*Chris Neil is searching for his brown envelope with a missing key inside. Please let us know if you come across it.

*Hensman Park Tennis Club will be celebrating our Centenary in 2025!! The Board are looking for volunteers to form a Centenary Party Planning Committee. If you would like to join, or if you have any memorabilia/photos of the Club and our members, let us know!

SUMMER LEAGUE FINALS

The very best of luck to all 17 of our League Teams who will be playing in the finals starting this weekend, March 11-12.

The State Women's Team finished in 3rd place and will be playing Peppermint Grove in enemy territory. The State Men's League will play at home against UWA after finishing 2nd.

Keep an eye out for our club update email later this week which will include a full listing of teams competing.

Big thanks to our Captains for the Year, and to those who filled in as reserves.

If you can make it down to the Club on the afternoon to watch the State League Men, the bar will be open and you can test out our brand new picnic tables, placed in prime viewing position!

Wishing all teams wonderful warm weather and speedy serves.

Go Hensman!

WELCOME OUR NEW

CLUB MANAGER

Hi and thanks to everyone I have met so far for being so welcoming and helpful!

Five Fun Facts about me:

Have a hubby, 2 kids, 1 dog and 4 chickens.

Long time Rowing Coach and begrudging earlybird.

Favourite holiday was chasing the Tour around France in a campervan in 2012.

Sports nut, will try anything (Rotto Channel Swim, Mont 24hr Mountain Bike Race, see photo for ill-advised participation in Western Mudd Rush).

Pretty sure my 9 year old is better at tennis than me.

MEMBER PROFILE

CLIVE MILES

Our mate Clive recently celebrated his 85th birthday on 15 February! He shares a birthday with fellow member, Michael Brennan & also former TV personality, Graham Kennedy.
Clive was born in England & studied dental science at Birmingham University before working as a dentist for 12 years in the UK. This is where he met his wife Marion and together they celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary in 2018, before she passed away in 2019.
Clive was a keen drummer in the Birmingham Uni Jazz Band which was successful in competing against other English universities - this probably explains why his dental studies often took second priority!
Being a keen sportsman, Clive excelled in athletics, was a keen cyclist, basketball player & soccer enthusiast. He learnt to play tennis on clay in England before relocating to Perth in 1975 where he bought a dental practice in Thornlie until his retirement in 1999.
Although previously a member of Kings Park Tennis Club, Clive has been a popular member of our Club for over 25 years. He was also a capable golfer at Gosnells Golf Club with a handicap of 17. Clive recently joined Byford Bowling Club where he plays competitively.
Clive lives in Bedfordale & has a son, Duncan, who lives in Queensland & daughter,
Roberta, who lives close to Clive. 3 grandchildren & 8 great grandchildren round out Clive’s family.
Although a few health issues & injuries may have recently interrupted Clive’s playing time, he still enjoys the game & hitting a few winners on court before joining his mates over a light refreshment or two.
