October 2020
"Estate Planning Awareness Month"

Your monthly look at the world of estate administration and professional organizing... plus random thoughts on world travel, craft beer, and local businesses we love.  Submit feedback to eileen@legacyestateorganizing.com

You don't know what you don't know.

Unless you are a penniless orphan with no siblings or close friends -- who also plans to die alone on a deserted island -- this month's newsletter applies to you.  With an opening like that, how can you NOT read on??

Covid has altered our reality, but one thing that hasn't changed is the inevitability of death and taxes (largely seen as negatives).  Why not focus on the positive by instead planning for later life, death, and financial security?  It is neither easier nor cheaper to put things off.  In fact, planning can enrich your present as well as your future and positively impact those around you.  And that is true at any time and in any year.

Click here to register for a Virtual Lunch & Learn on Thursday, October 29th at 12:00 noon.  I was happy to be asked to participate in this one-hour presentation, during which you will hear from four different professionals in the fields of elder law, financial planning, advance funeral planning, and estate organizing.  There will be time for questions, as well as (ta-da!) raffle prizes.  The presenters can't see you, so go ahead and eat your sandwich while learning how to make aging, finances, and dying that much easier.

Last chance: Complimentary training with any MLP purchase

Continuing through October, I am including an online coaching session with the purchase of My Life Packet.

You can download the digital version immediately upon purchase; I will mail you the binder (with bonus gift!) within 24 hours of your order.

One-Minute Estate Tip

You may find estate work to be a contemplative opportunity.  You will inevitably learn a lot about your loved one by going through all of their documents and belongings.  Accept it as a gift and use that time to grieve, remember, and occasionally laugh.

Small Businesses We Love

It's Also Women's Small Business Month!

Many of my colleagues are female small business owners.  This month, I focus on one who has truly forged her own path.  Let's catch up with Tracey Lawrence (no, not the country singer of '90s fame).  Many of you are already familiar with her, but I'm guessing you don't know everything she's involved in!

Hat #1: Founder of Grand Family Planning, a Ringwood, NJ-based business that brings together a team in a collaborative approach to senior care and planning.  Just reading through the website provides you with valuable information and resources.  GFP's team works with families, individuals, businesses, and government agencies to provide education, awareness, and planning.

Hat #2: Author of the bestselling book "Dementia Sucks: A Caregiver's Journey - With Lessons Learned" (2018).  Tracey was a caregiver to not one but two parents with dementia.  She manages to document her gut-wrenching experience in a humorous fashion.  This book continues to impact people with its unflinching honesty and laugh-til-you-cry writing.

Hat #3: Speaker and online instructor, most recently of Udemy's "Family Care Survival Course" (2020).  If you are "a working adult who has concerns about their aging loved ones," this 2-hour crash course is essential.  Tracey packs a lot of information into this on-demand primer and includes downloadables.  Udemy's low pricing and cloud-based platform make it accessible for everyone.

There are additional hats in Tracey's proverbial closet, but I've run out of space!
