"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path"  Psalm 119:105

Academics

We have received the PACEs this afternoon!  After they arrive we will be proofreading each PACE for each child to make sure there is no objectionable content.

Here are a few other updates:

  • A large screen mounted on a rolling cart, webcam and soundbar for streaming Bible class through ECS has been purchased.  Bible guides have arrived. The corresponding Bible stories are being aligned to each chapter of Bible guide.  The books 'God's Care and Continuance of His Church' will be used for Church History class, and will be available to each student in 4th-6th grade.
  • Cubicles, chromebooks, table and chairs for EL and the many other necessary basic school supplies are being purchased
  • Math Reminder: individual families are responsible for ordering their own ‘Teaching Textbooks’ online math courses.  http://teachingtextbooks.com/ .  Be sure to order the online version, not the course that comes on DVDs, since the Chromebooks we will provide will not have a DVD player.  You may use the DVD course if students use their own computers that are compatible with this format.
  • KCTC:  Our KCTC students began classes this week without any further difficulty.  They will be joining classes at DLIGR by 9:30 each morning.

High school students:

Please bring the following supplies:

  1. Bible and Psalter
  2. 2 folders (Spanish students bring 3 folders)
  3. 1 Notebook
  4. Pencils and erasers
  5. Blue or Black Ink Pens only
  6. Pencil cup
  7. Headphones or earbuds
  8. Calculator

Thank you!

Staffing

  • We are so pleased to welcome the following staff to DLIGR:
    • Mrs. Nicole Verhoef - high school
    • Dr. W. deBraber - high school
    • Mrs. Karen Fluit - elementary/K
    • Mrs. Aly Rotich - Elementary
    • Mrs. Meena VanDyke - Elementary
    • Mrs. Cori VanDyke - Elementary
    • Mrs. Ruth Kersten - Elementary
    • Mr. Jeff Marshall - Shop **
    • Mr. Travis VanDyke - HS/Shop
    • Mrs. Sarah Boluyt - administrative help

Together with parent volunteers, our staffing needs have been amply supplied.  High school and elementary staff have met to prepare for the new school and the new year.  It has been a learning experience, but the support and dedication is very encouraging.

** We would like to extend an invitation to homeschoolers who may be interested in their children joining shop class with us. If interested, please contact us for details.

Building

Last night we were notified of the final approval to use the facilities at Coopersville Bible Church for the upcoming school year.  The facilities are a very good fit for our needs, and include use of their gym, chapel area, 3-4 classrooms, a separate Spanish room, an administrative office space and a small library with built-in shelving.  There is a large paved parking lot, and an expansive grassy yard for play!  May we be given to be truly thankful to God for this provision also.

We are hopeful to begin the process of cleaning, organizing and set up in the classrooms and offices by Saturday this week. If you'd like to lend a hand over the next week you may call one of us to coordinate everyone's efforts to be ready for our opening day!

Legal

In order to begin instruction at the CBC facility, we need to complete a fairly complicated set of legal approvals, including change of use forms, school code approvals, fire inspections, etc.  All the necessary documentation and people are working on this approval, but it is often some time before it is completely legal and approved.  We will keep you updated on this in the next week.  May the Lord also open doors in this regard, and make possible what is impossible for us.

Finance

  • Tuition rates have been set, and are due the second Friday of each month.  Electronic payment options are being discussed as a possibility in the near future.
  • There will be an opportunity to support our school through a link on our webpage - this should be functioning shortly.

Ways to Help

  • Thank you so much to all those who have bought or donated books to our library.  They are being sorted, stamped and made ready for shelving.  It will be so nice for our students to be able to "go to the library!"  We can still take more books anytime throughout the year.
  • Additionally, we were so happy to hear of a generous donation for religious books.  The books have now been purchased through BTB for our school!
  • Coopersville Bible Church has a large, beautiful grassy field in the back that we are allowed to use for playground equipment. We have ideas for a playground/playset, and are excited to install some of those features soon!

If you'd like to help in other ways, but not sure how, please call us!  Especially as we move towards opening the school year, there is lots to do!
