"This is how an author feels after getting up from his desk having just finished writing his 11th Spy Novel and absolutely certain it's the best one he's ever written! But, you dear friends, will be the judge of that." |

Jack Being Jack, That's All. Jack Nicholson. What more can one say? Only met him once playing golf in Aspen with my old pal RJ, Robert Wagner. We'd just pulled up to the 1st tee and were getting our sticks off the cart when Jack comes barreling around a corner, screeches to a stop, leaps out, grabs his driver and tees up. RJ, who obviously knows him, says, "Uh, Jack?" Jack looks back and says, "Sorry? Oh, Bob, sorry! Mind if I play through?" "Would it really matter?" RJ said. "Not really," Jack said with grin. So, he whacked his ball, jumped in his cart and off he went. "What the hell, RJ?" I said. "Jack being Jack, that's all" Wagner said and teed up his ball. I never did find out how Jack did on that hole. |

Brittania Rules the Waves I've been collecting 18th Century Marine Art for decades. I saw this gem in a gallery and it took my breath away. Most spectacular work I've ever seen. I can just envision Alex Hawke's namesake ancestor on the deck barking out orders. | | |

"Fast Eddie" One of my most treasured family photos: My esteemed godfather, America's First Air Ace, Captain Eddie Rickenbacker. A true American War hero who was the recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross, Medal of Honor, Legion of Honor and Croix de Guerre, as well as being a race car driver, automotive designer, government consultant on military matters, avid golfer and owner and head of Eastern Airlines. They don't make 'em like him any more. |

Portrait of the Author A 'lighthearted' portrait taken a few ago by ace photographer Brian Smale in the Sno-Cat barn up near the top of Aspen's Ajax Mountain as a potential author photo. Mothballed for a while, it resurfaced recently as a possibility for DRAGONFIRE. It might be a bit grim, but you never know. Yay or Nay? |
