HERE IS YOUR FEBRUARY 4, 2019 SCANA UPDATE
Scottsdale Coalition for Airplane Noise Abatement
FAA HAS NOT ANNOUNCED NEW DATES FOR SKY HARBOR PUBLIC WORKSHOPS
As of this writing, the FAA has not announced new dates to hold the Step Two public workshops that were Court mandated when the FAA lost the lawsuit filed by the City of Phoenix and historic neighborhoods. As noted in past SCANA updates, the original meetings were to be held in February but the government shutdown caused the meetings to be postponed.
The Court Memorandum, dated November 2017, stated "The purpose of the meetings will be to inform the public regarding the alternatives being considered under Step Two and to solicit public comments regarding these alternatives." To date, the FAA has not indicated it will comply with the Memorandum and present alternatives.
SCANA will post updated information on new meeting dates when the FAA announces them. While SCANA regrets the delay, our commitment to attend and use the meetings to express the communities serious concerns regarding the unsafe NextGen flight paths over our homes remains undaunted. When the new dates are announced, participation in the meetings by concerned residents is necessary in order for the FAA know that affected residents are not going to go away.

PUBLIC SERVANTS SEND LETTERS TO FAA REQUESTING FLIGHT PATH ALTERNATIVES
Scottsdale Mayor Jim Lane and Maricopa County Supervisor Steve Chucri have recently sent letters to the FAA requesting it to comply with a Court Memorandum and provide flight path alternatives at the upcoming FAA Step Two workshops. Both writers referenced the FAA's NextGen eastbound departure routes out of Sky Harbor International Airport that the FAA moved from unpopulated terrain to a new highway in the sky down the middle of Scottsdale and its many residential communities, schools and public areas. The U.S. Court of Appeals ruled the FAA unlawfully implemented all of the new NextGen flight paths out of Sky Harbor Airport, but a settlement compromise between the parties limited the resolution of moving flight paths back to their historical locations to only westbound departures. SCANA and parties opposing the eastbound departure routes contend that the same legal resolution must be applied to the eastbound routes as well since the original Court decision regarding NextGen at Sky Harbor did not distinguish between eastbound or westbound flight routes.

WE DID NOT MOVE TO THE FAA, THE FAA MOVED TO US!
Thousands of homeowners in Scottsdale and across the Country purchased their homes before an airplane superhighway was "arbitrarily and capriciously" placed over their neighborhoods without their knowledge or input.
