THE BASICS

1. WHEN, WHY & HOW

  • When:

The State election will take place on Saturday 25 March

(It is always held on the 4th Saturday of March every four years)

  • Am I obliged and eligible to vote?

Voting is compulsory for all Australian citizens aged 18 years and over.

(If you are not already enrolled you can still vote on the day with appropriate ID. See more HERE)

  • How to vote: Early voting opened on Saturday 18 March for anyone who is eligible.

Polling booths will be open from 8am to 6pm on the day of the election

  1. HOW MANY BALLOT PAPERS WILL I NEED TO COMPLETE?

Two. You will need to complete a smaller ballot paper for the Legislative Assembly (or Lower House where local candidates are listed) and a larger ballot paper for the Legislative Council (or Upper House where candidates for the whole State are listed).

  1. WHICH IS MY ELECTORATE?

To find out your State electorate enter your address HERE. You can then follow the steps for where to vote.

(Note that if you are in the federal electorate of Mackellar, your State electorate will be one of the following: Manly, Davidson, Wakehurst or Pittwater. )

  1. OPTIONAL PREFERENTIAL VOTING? HOW DOES IT WORK?

Voting in NSW is different to every other State. It’s OK to number just one square  in each ballot paper. However to make the most of your vote, many experts advise numbering every square when selecting the candidates in your electorate.

(There’s more on this in the videos…)

WHO ARE THE CANDIDATES?

  • The Tally Room website has information on all candidates for each electorate and other useful information. Click on your State electorate HERE

  • Watch recordings from three recent Candidate Forums hosted by Northern Beaches Climate Action Network & Voices of Warringah in the electorates of Pittwater, Wakehurst and Manly .

(Unfortunately we have not been able to secure a recording from a recent Forum in Davidson hosted by Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Post)

  • The Tally Room  lists and provides information on the candidates (there’s a lot) vying for election in the Legislative Council HERE
