BREAKING: Gov. Hogan announces closure of bars, movie theaters, gyms statewide

MARYLAND – Changes are coming to the state of Maryland to help stop the spread of the coronavirus.

During a press conference at 11 a.m. Monday, Governor Larry Hogan announced that all bars, dine-in restaurants, movie theaters, and gyms will close at 5 p.m. Monday. Takeout, drive-thrus, and delivery will remain open, as well as grocery stores, pharmacies, and gas stations. In addition, all social, community, religious, recreational, sports gatherings, or events of more than 50 people in close proximity are prohibited until further notice.

Hogan also introduced an order to prohibit electric, gas, water, sewage, phone, cable TV, and internet service provider companies from shutting off any residential customer’s service, or charging any customer late fees, during this State of Emergency.

Hogan has activated 1,000 Maryland National Guard soldiers and airmen, and another 1,200 are currently on enhanced readiness. In addition, he is activating 250 Maryland State Troopers of the Mobile Field Force.
