This week, I don't have Thanksgiving on the forefront of my mind... I have Go-Home Days & a cattle show on my mind. Also, can I admit something to you? I can't believe I am going to tell everyone this...but here goes. I don't cook Thanksgiving dinner.
There. I said it.
I don't cook Thanksgiving dinner. The last few days, I have thought about how our Thanksgiving Day has evolved since Wade and I got married over 16 years ago. Our first Thanksgiving we were so broke and 6 hours from our family. Our newly made friends invited us over to their parents & they treated us like family. Two years later when we moved back to Illinois, we were closer and went down to my parents.
We moved back to Iowa two years later when Sydney was just a newborn. We went back that Thanksgiving, and the following years we haven't been back much since. It hurts my heart not being able to be with my family, but sometimes life is just hard. We were splitting up with Wade taking the kids and staying one night while I stayed at home. We would both leave at the same time and wave as we passed each other on the road switching placing. It was hard. For so many reason...
Fast-forward to the year of covid and we decided to change how we celebrated Thanksgiving. As a family, we volunteered to delivery hot Thanksgiving meals to shut-ins with our church. This gives us to give back more to the ones who need it & more importantly it shows our children what it means to serve others.
As you head into your Thanksgiving week, we wish you many blessings. Enjoy all the foods & make sure you check out the rest of this newsletter to see what your dogs can & can't have. As for me, I will be enjoying a nice steak while trying to figure out how to put together some Gift Guides for New Puppy Owners & a few others.
Happy Thanksgiving,
~Elly
