CIST OCTOBER NEWSLETTER

CIST SERVING SCHOOLS

October has been a great month for ‘shining’ in our schools! We have delivered 42 RE lessons, 14 collective worship assemblies and a prayer space!

We were privileged to work with the fantastic team at All Saints Church, Marple as they ran their annual Church Week. Pupils from All Saints Primary visited the church throughout the week and took part in lots of activities run by the amazing church volunteers. CIST’s activity explored the ‘OWs’ (damage) we cause to our planet, the ‘NOWs’ – action we can take now to help, and the ‘WOWs’ of God’s creation. Pupils had a great time collecting and sorting ‘rubbish’ and thinking about recycling and the small things they can do to make a big impact on the planet.

We have celebrated Black History Month in schools by looking at the life of Maya Angelou in our assemblies. Maya was inspired by her Christian faith to stand up for the rights of the Black community and always tried to be as kind as she could be to others because she believed that all God's children deserved to be treated with respect and equality.

Beth, our secondary worker, has made lots of new contacts and is busy connecting with secondary schools. She has led her first lesson already with a fabulous group of Year 7 pupils at St Anne's RC Secondary School. They explored the theme of 'identity' and who we are in Christ, as well as having a go at some creations of their own!

If you have a connection with a Stockport secondary school, Beth would love to hear from you at secondary.cist@gmail.com

CIST PARTNERING CHURCHES

Jo visited St George’s Church, Poynton on the 8th of October and updated their congregations on our work in schools in their two services. It was lovely to meet so many people who have supported our work over many years and share in worship with them.

Catherine supported Heaton Mersey Methodist Church with their ‘Café Church’ on 15th October where they enjoyed tea and cake and explored the relevance of the values of Jesus in the 21st century and how we can show God's love to others in a practical way.

Prayer Points

Thank you for your continuing prayerful support. Here's what we will be praying for throughout November:

  • Anti-bullying workshops throughout November. We will be sharing the story of Gideon (Judges 7) and exploring how we can tackle bullying by 'making a noise'.

  • Pray for pupils in our schools who are worried about family and friends affected by ongoing wars.

  • Continue to pray for Beth as she makes new connections and for openings into secondary schools.
