Feeling Rather Bookish

By the time your eyes have begun reading these words I'll already be up and about, psyching myself up for day two of our garage sale that we've been prepping for all week long. Also: it's amazing how much stuff a couple of people can amass over a period of time. Rhea and I have our sights set on some form of tiny home living in the future and while we're still trying to nail down what that can realistically look like (I still have yet to hit one year at my full time job, so-while finances are in a more stable place-I'm being cautious not to count our chickens) we're overdue to purge a lot of things we just don't need anymore. So, while you sip your coffee, I'm probably doing the same but out in front of the garage with tables overflowing with relics of my past. I raise a breakfast toast to getting rid of the things we no longer need and appreciating the things we already have. And with that, let's get on with the newsletter!

This week's been very book-y

A lot's happened this week in the vein of books. For starters: to gear up for my upcoming appearance at Fan Expo Dallas I put in new orders for all of my comics! The 2nd print run for The After Death has been ordered as well as more copies of We Were All Lions and Crash Landing. By the end of May I'll have re-stocked all of the books and will be ready to hopefully sell out again at Fan Expo.

Not only that but we have finally (really this time) submitted, signed off, gave the okay, and saw publication confirmation of my latest children's book! That's right, Professor Wobble and the Reversal Cake Mystery is officially published and is available for purchase. Though I won't have any copies to sell for 2-3 weeks or so. It does show up on Amazon and Barnes and Noble's websites (which is cool), but publication literally took place this week so neither online company has hard copies yet. Very happy to have finally gotten this book off of my ongoing to do list and will happily spend the rest of my days as just a comic artist. Illustration may come later on but for now I'm content to give it a rest.

Shopsquatch!

So...stop me if you've heard this one: Big Foot walks into a mall...

At least that's how Rhea and I's latest Attack the Page comic starts off. What happens next? Well I guess you'll have to find out! But I promise you won't have to wait long. I'm working on the cover illustration as we speak (see the inks below) and I'm hoping to have it all colored and ready to go by this time next weekend-after which I can start figuring out the best place to get some copies made. Patrons and Substack peeps will get first dibs and I'll share it here in the newsletter soon after so keep your eyes peeled.

A few expectations...

Now that the children's book is done (really this time), I feel like I need to set up some reasonable expectations for myself and to let you guys know what I'm hoping to achieve in the next few weeks/months. Moving forward the goal is a new After Death page every week until this current storyline reaches it's conclusion. That means-I reach the official half-way point of the entire story. After we get there (and you'll know once we do, I promise) I'll probably take a small break before I dive headfirst into the second half of the story. So, expect new pages soon, and when they start I'm planning on continuous, consistent pages until we reach the mid way point.

If you're newsletter subscribers only and aren't a part of either the Patreon or Substack family, you may want to consider joining us! On top of the weekly newsletter I deliver an exclusive weekly ramble podcast and early access to new After Death pages, autobio comics, and sneak peeks at other new projects. I average another 2-3 posts per week on Patreon and Substack and will frequently post more often than that. If you really enjoy my weekly newsletter, chances are you'll also like the things I share on those platforms as well.

What's Making Me Happy This Week

  • So as I've been writing the pages for this upcoming mid-point of The After Death, I've also having to think about the actual ending of the entire story. I may have mentioned this already but, late one night Rhea and I sat outside and I fired off round after round of possible plot holes-and then we tried to fill them. But then I ran across this article about plot holes that was written back in 2021 about one of the most debated plot holes of all time: the Eagles in Lord of the Rings. Not only does the article explain the "plot holes" the eagles are from Lord of the Rings, but writer Susana Polo also mentions some pretty big plot holes in other major films as well as goes into a really good explanation why you shouldn't worry about plot holes and just focus on spinning a good yarn. I really enjoyed the article and have found myself still thinking about it days later. Find it here.

Alright you guys, that's it for this week's newsletter. I realize it's another week with not alotta' art to share but I promise things are coming, things are cooking. Spent a ton of time this past week going through boxes and closets and drawers and not a lot time was spent behind any sort of desk. That'll change next week though so I'll see you back here again then. Thanks for reading!
