Happy New Year to all our Neighbours across Willowdale! Hi Neighbour ! Happy New Year Willowdale! I hope everyone has had a great start to the new year and a chance to reflect on the year that has passed as we dream big dreams for our community for 2023! Moving forward we will be sending weekly updates on the happenings at City Hall and in our community. Being informed is an important part of civic participation and key to a better future for our city. My hope is to make our local democracy more transparent and accessible for busy people like you to participate!
As I look to the year ahead, I feel a tremendous sense of hope and optimism for what we can accomplish together, as a connected community. Let’s build a stronger Willowdale together! WILLOWDALE SKATE PARTY SAT., JAN. 7, 2023 / 3-6pm Join MP Ali Ehsassi, MPP Stan Cho, TDSB School Trustee Dr. Weidong Pei, the Willowdale BIA and me in kicking off the new year with a neighbourhood skate party! Meet neighbours over skating and hot chocolate provided by Tim Hortons while enjoying performances of local figure skaters. Afterwards, why not stay and enjoy a local restaurant in Willowdale! #dinelocal NeighbourLink North York will also be receiving food donations for the 415 Food Hub.

LEARN ABOUT THE CITY OF TORONTO BUDGET The City of Toronto Budget is larger than most provinces in Canada! It is a large sum of money to organize - however it is still important that we participate because where we spend our money defines the future we see for our city. Stephen Conforti, Executive Director of the Financial Planning Division will guide us through the basics of understanding the City of Toronto Budget. HOW TO GET INVOLVED IN THE BUDGETING PROCESS If you have thoughts on the 2023 Budget, you can speak to the Budget Committee on Tuesday, January 17 and Wednesday, January 18, 2023. To register to speak email buc@toronto.ca or call 416-392-4666. Please register by 4:30 p.m., Monday, January 16, 2023. Registered speakers will be provided with instructions about how to join the meeting. The meetings will stream live on the Toronto City Council YouTube channel .

ONTARIO LAND TRIBUNAL - APPEAL TO YONGE STREET NORTH SECONDARY PLAN We know there is a future with significant growth planned for the northern part of Willowdale. Our City Planners have put together the Yonge Street North Secondary Plan which is now being appealed at the Ontario Land Tribunal. It's important that we understand what the plan is about, what is happening, why it's being appealed and what residents can do to ensure our community's best interest is considered in the process. Guy Matthew, Senior Planner at the City of Toronto will explain what is happening and how we can participate. CONSTRUCTION NOTICE - METROLINX YNSE PROJECT Metrolinx's Yonge North Subway Extension (YNSE) project is a planned 7.4 km extension of the TTC Subway Line 1 from its current location at Finch Station in the City of Toronto to High Tech Station in Richmond Hill.
The Early Works at the Finch Station will include installation of a new power cable duct bank underneath Hendon Avenue, between Yonge Street and an existing Traction Power Substation located opposite Duplex Avenue. The duct bank installation will require road excavation on the north side of Hendon Avenue. Therefore, Metrolinx will undertake Early Works construction in four stages to minimize lane closures and maintain driveway accesses on the north and south sides of Hendon Avenue. We have been notified that Stage 1 will commence mid-January and it is projected to take 23 days to complete. Under Stage 1, Metrolinx will require a partial closure of the westbound curb lane on Hendon Avenue. With the partial road closure, eastbound and westbound through traffic lanes will remain available to vehicular traffic on Hendon Avenue. Additionally, Metrolinx will require a temporary closure of the north sidewalk on Hendon Avenue. With the sidewalk closure, alternative pedestrian paths will be available through the north side multi-use trail in the Hydro corridor and the south sidewalk on Hendon Avenue. Metrolinx will install appropriate advanced advisory signage at the intersection of Hendon Avenue and Greenview Avenue and the intersection of Hendon Avenue and Yonge Street to inform of the sidewalk closure. People cycling on Hendon Avenue will continue to share the available travel lanes with the general traffic. There is currently no transit service on Hendon Avenue. Additionally, all property accesses will be maintained.
