UPCOMING EVENTS

We are nearing the end of 2022, which for my family means we are entering a time of reflection as a precursor to looking forward to 2023. But we are not there yet!

Though November is nearly done with Thanksgiving quickly approaching, December provides several opportunities to engage. On December 10th Care For Me Youth Initiatives will be hosting a Family Wellness Holiday Extravaganza in Virginia Beach. As part of this family event, I will be providing a Parent Education Class to attending moms and dads. For those alumni of the Raising Confident Daughters Program, our monthly Free Flow Monday will be held on December 12th. Then, on December 15th I will be in Easton, MD at Polaris Village Academy as we continue with the Family Night Parent Program.

And we close out December's events on the 20th with the Enabling Excellence Series: Leadership in the Home - What it Means and Why it Matters. If you have not registered, I invite you to do so today,

RECENT EVENTS

There is an interplay between supporting families and community. And as a newly planted resident in the Commonwealth of Virginia, I continually seek people and organizations I can partner with to positively impact others.

The past month included multiple opportunities to do just that -- namely the Life Under Construction Conference in Suffolk, VA (21-23 October), Virginia Beach Minority Business Council Conference (10 November) and Movement Day with local community leaders and organizations seeking to dismantle the school to prison pipeline (November 12th).

Building partnerships is a continual effort, this includes supporting existing partners. To that I was able to support Ms. Darla Edwards (CEO, Successful Innovations) who was recognized by Lynchburg Living Magazine for her impact in the community. I am so proud of Darla and all she and her company continues to do for families, including hosting free monthly Parent Empowerment Sessions.

LIFE ALIGNMENT

Most of us strive to align our goals and actions so at some point we realize our aspirations. Similarly, we recognize the challenge of achieving such alignment. When not, this may translate to the so-called "mid-life crisis" later in life, or a perpetual search for "your passion" or the often cited work-life imbalance.

This is where the Living Your Life Framework has value, both for you personally and for your legacy. It is designed to contextualize the multiple facets of life that we all invariably face and must account for or deal with ... us and our children.

The startpoint, in my view, is setting your expectations. Which is inherent for all of us, whether consciously or subconsciously. Often traced back to our childhood experiences - things we did well, if/how we were encouraged and what we dreamed of growing up. What that looks like ... will be further explored next month.
