CARD SHOWER Over our almost 24 years we have had many members that joined the Matlacha Hookers but just really enjoyed being behind the scenes. They often did not attend meetings or could not volunteer due to physical challenges. But they supported our efforts and shared our mission to continue Making a Positive Difference in our Community. One of our own from many years ago recently passed away at the tender age of 97, Mickie Harvey from Matlacha. We should all be so lucky to have great lives that allow us to stay in our homes and enjoy our lives! Please mail a note or card to her daughter Becky. Becky and her husband John have decided to keep Mickie's home and plan to continue vacationing here and may move to Matlacha. Ms. Becky Hanauer 8780 Old Stage Road Waynesville, OH 45068 Always remember that ANYTIME that you receive a request for a Card Shower; whether you know the person or not, it can make a tremendous difference to the recipient knowing that someone cares. It can give them comfort, lift their spirits and change their point of view. DJ and Anita |

Hello there, my name is Anita Jannottii my husband and I moved from Chicago to Pine Island. Nearly 10 years ago we purchased a home with good bones and rehabbed it from a two bedroom home to a three bedroom home along with landscaping, while fighting off all the no-see-ems. I had the pleasure of seeing gators resting on the shoreline of our property along with turtles and snakes. Every day at dusk we would watch all the egrets that spent the day take off at dusk from our shoreline after all the chatter they produced. I used to think they were saying, you go first, no you go first :) We also had two peacocks or three not sure, come through our property a couple times and turtles would come out of the water to lay their eggs, which I never saw. I also saw a great big owl once in one of our trees and and a young Hawk flying about, talk about nature, it was right in our backyard! Pat Parlon, my neighbor at the time, told me about the Hookers and what they do. It seemed it was right up my alley. When I was young (not to long ago :) my mom had lupus, and was sick for a many years. So the church and other organizations would help us have a great Christmas by donating presents for us because all our money would go towards living expenses. There were eight of us and I remember that vividly even being very young. I think I was 10 years old at the time and I said that I would give back somehow, someway, and I have over the years. As a Matlacha Hooker I have fun helping along with my fellow hookers putting together the different events to raise money which we give to the community. People are so appreciative of all that we do and they let us know that when we see them at our events. ~Anita is our current Chaplain~ |
