Basic Income and Wellbeing

BINZ is hosting a workshop on 'wellbeing' in Wellington this Saturday

The Government is preparing what they call a 'wellbeing' budget. Commentators are suggesting that this is a world first.

 

Many argue that increased wellbeing is an important benefit of basic income. The Finnish basic income pilot, recently reported on, for example, seems to support this argument.

 

We invite you to participate in a workshop to discuss what are the important aspects of a wellbeing budget. See the programme for the workshop below.

1:30pm - Why we should have Basic Income, Gail Duncan

Gail works as a special advisor to the Ministry of Primary Industries. Her recent paper 'Economic Review of the Status of Beneficiaries' argues for a new approach to benefits by regarding each individual as an economic unit due a basic income (BI) such that full rights and participation in society is achievable

 

2:00pm - How Basic Income Can Change our Situation, Bella Moke

Bella is from Rotorua and has worked in the public service, management consultancy/business improvement and Māori NGO sectors - from Bella, "My views are by no means scholarly, but I think that's OK." She is searching for a cohort that has the courage to influence significant changes so that more people in Aotearoa New Zealand can enjoy a better life.
