Some years Mother Nature can challenge us at the Sky Trials. This year’s temperature will be perfect for flying and watching these magnificent falcons demonstrate their awesome flying power! This year we don’t have snow to challenge us, but there is mud. The last 2.6 miles on the dirt road that turns off the Pony Express road is muddy and getting more ruts by the day. It’s better in the morning and worsens as the temperatures rise. We strongly suggest that everyone come extra early, travel in groups with four-wheel drive vehicles and bring a tow rope, or chains just in case.

Directions

1.    From I-15 in Lehi, Utah (exit 279) Drive west on Utah Highway 73 through Lehi, past Eagle Mountain, through Cedar Valley and the small towns of Cedar Fort and Fairfield.

2.     Continue west on Highway 73 approximately 5 miles beyond Fairfield to the Tooele County line and look for signs for Faust and the Pony Express Trail to the west. 3.    You will turn west off of Highway 73 as it makes a sharp turn to the North. Follow the dirt road toward Faust and down into Rush Valley.  Follow this road 4.3 miles. Be aware that Google might have you turn early on what looks like normal dirt roads, but might get you stuck. Make sure you drive until you see the Utah Sky Trials sign. 4.    You will see a sign for the Utah Sky Trials. Turn south and proceed 2.6 miles on the dirt road to the flying field. (If you didn’t turn here reach the Pony Express Monument on the north side of the road, you have gone too far.)

Note: It is about 65 minutes from Provo/Orem. Note: There is a small town in Tooele County called Rush Valley. It is not there. Rush Valley is also the name of the huge expansive valley where we fly. The yellow star is the flying field. And YES it is in the middle of nowhere! There is not always a tent out there as a heads up as well. Google Maps: https://goo.gl/maps/jEWQVxivYtR2
