Children's Summer Learning Virtual Programs

Pirate Goodie & the Magic Chest

June 28–July 4: Join Pirate Goodie aboard The Story Ship for magic, music, puppets, animation, interactive puzzles, and games! Participants also have the option to download a printable treasure map that can be used for a scavenger hunt and during the show. The show is highly-entertaining even without the map, so it is not absolutely necessary.

Animal Tales

July 5–11: Wildlife Encounters

will bring favorite characters from beloved books to life! Join us as we explore epic wildlife and meet incredible animal ambassadors.

Origami in Motion:
A Japanese Magical Journey

July 12–18: Yasu Ishida, magician and storyteller, will teach you how to fold "action" origami that animates, jumps, flips and flies! Have any kind of paper from your home ready to follow and fold along with Yasu.

The Boy Who Cried Wolf …

and Everything Else!

July 19–25: Porkchop Productions' fabulously-fractured take on Aesop's classic fable brings the story to life in a whole new way! This original adaptation teaches important lessons about lying and the consequences of not telling the truth.

Doug Berky's Gems:
The World’s Wisdom Stories

July 26–30: Stories should be seen as well as heard! Doug Berky Theatre uses improvisation, mime, masks, voice, and puppetry for a visual feast full of fanciful characters, dramatic and comic twists and turns, and "Gems" of wisdom passed down to us from many peoples around the world.

Princess Storytime

July 30, 10–10:30 a.m.: Join Carolina Characters for a virtual end-of-summer learning storytime with the "Oceania Island Princess!" Be sure to leave a comment or question for an interactive experience.

hoopla Expands Collection with New 'Flex' Borrows

YCL has increased the number of hoopla Instant Borrows to 10 per month, but that's not all! Starting July 7, you'll have even more to love about our hoopla digital collection with new "Flex" Borrows! In addition to your 10 monthly Instant Borrows, you'll have 5 Flex Borrows to use on  a vast selection of specially marked, new and popular eBooks and audiobooks that you can borrow now or place on hold to read later.

Instant titles are always available and can be checked out by multiple patrons at once, while Flex titles can only be borrowed by one person at a time. If a copy is out on loan, you may place a hold on the title. YCL cardholders have a limit of 10 Flex holds at a time, so when you return one Flex item you can select a new one in its place. Holds expire in 48 hours.

Visit YCL's Virtual Library or download the hoopla app, and get ready to read, watch, and listen to more than 950,000 eBooks, audiobooks, comics, movies, music, or television titles that are available to stream or download!

New! SC State Park Passports!

Enjoy the great outdoors with a South Carolina State Park Passport! These passports, now available for checkout at all YCL locations, provide unlimited entry to all 47 SC state parks for everyone in the vehicle.

Passports can be checked out for one week on a first-come, first-served basis and must be picked up and returned at the same library. To borrow a passport, simply search our online catalog for "SC Park Pass."

This project is made possible in part by a Library Services and Technology Act grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services administered by the South Carolina State Library. Additional support for this program comes from South Carolina State Parks.
