Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising that tempt you to believe your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires some of the same courage that a soldier needs. Peace has its victories, but it takes brave men and women to win them. Ralph Waldo Emerson |

Dear Friends, Members, and Colleagues, This month, we will have another Membership Meeting on Tuesday, March 29 at 7 p.m. RSVP or login to our website and click on the Membership Meetings tab to attend. The highlight of our March meeting is "Getting Your Work into the World: Observations from a Bookstore Owner" presented by Julia Bodwell. She is the owner of The Gilded Page, an independent bookstore in downtown Tarpon Springs, Florida. A former educator, Julia is also the author of several young adult novels, including One Wrong Summer and The Last Thing She Wrote. FAPACon 2024, our annual conference, is quickly approaching. Please make sure to mark the conference dates of Friday, August 2, and Saturday, August 3 on your calendar. Links for hotel reservations, registration, and award tickets are already active on our website. Don’t forget to log in as a FAPA member to receive your member discounts! If you wish to advertise in our FAPACon 2024 program or if you plan on being a vendor or a sponsor for the conference, please check out the pricing on our website. For more details, contact Shena Anderson-Place at tashena.place@myfapa.org. Let me remind you again of FAPA’s Student Award for Literary Excellence. We will select two winners. Each will be presented with a $500 cash award during the FAPACon 2024 President’s Book Awards Ceremony. Submissions are easily made on our website. Please urge any full-time Florida undergraduate or graduate student meeting the requirements detailed below to apply. The student awards would not be possible without the generous book donations from our award-winning FAPA authors. We are currently accepting books and related items for the raffle baskets to help support our Student Awards program. Last year, I donated a signed copy of Pirates of the Florida Coast, a small bottle of rum, beads, and a toy pirate sword. Please see the article below for more details on how to get your book included in a raffle basket. That’s it for now. I hope to see all of you at our Membership Meetup on March 29. |

The FAPACon Basket Raffle is an excellent opportunity for FAPA authors who have previously won an award or those who are entering this year’s FAPA awards to publicize their books while helping literacy students with their college expenses. Simply donate a copy of your book and, if possible, any new, small items that fit the theme of your book. Renee Garrison will put the baskets together. Baskets will be on display throughout the conference, and attendees will purchase tickets to enter the drawing for the baskets of their choice. Winners will be drawn during the FAPACon 2024 President’s Book Awards Ceremony. Please send your book and optional related items to: Renee Garrison 305 Bellingrath Terrace Deland, FL 32724 |

Julia Bodwell, the proprietor of The Gilded Page in Tarpon Springs, will share ideas and observations to help authors and publishers get their works into bookstores successfully. During this month's membership meeting, Julia will share thoughts on the physical presentation of your book: cover design, structure, interior formatting, as well as what to expect from a bookstore. |
|
|
Every writer and publisher is proud of their work. Getting that work noticed is part of the writing journey. Knowing what to expect when putting your book out into the world will help readers find your book. |
