Building Capacity for Culturally Competent Care

Dear allies, amigos,

I'm writing to call on you, our caring community. We've entered an exciting new reorganization phase to increase our capacity to respond to emerging needs in our community. Though proud of our work, more must be done. With new staff, consultants, and board members joining our team, we're working on boosting access to counseling and community support for those who need it most.

Our Spanish-speaking, Deaf/HoH, and developmentally disabled neighbors in South Jersey still face barriers like poverty, language, and stigma. Studies show only 36.1% of Latinos received mental health treatment in 2021.

We need your help to knock down obstacles and provide culturally competent care that makes a real difference! Please support us by donating, volunteering, considering work/board opportunities, or spreading the word about how anyone can co-create nurturing conditions for the families we support.

AIC has been invited to be part of the Community Power Global Learning Exchange program!

We are thrilled to announce that our organization has been selected to join the Community Power Global Learning Exchange program, launched by Root Change, with support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. This program aims to foster learning and collaboration among groups dedicated to community power and health equity issues across the United States and worldwide.

Why This Exchange Matters?

Too often, organizations get stuck in silos, focusing only on the immediate needs of their communities. This program enables us to zoom out and explore the bigger-picture questions:

  • How can we build the kind of communities we want to live in?

  • What possibilities could we discover if we push past our comfort zones?

  • How might sharing resources more equitably allow everyone to unlock their inner power?
