One Important Question To Answer |
Great news! We are finally making progress on the toxic biosolid issue facing our community. The CRD is now moving towards the planning process for options to deal with biosolids. They are asking the public for feedback by Monday, June 3rd at 11:55 pm. Please respond to their one question by cutting and pasting in the answer below (it takes less than one minute to do), using this link: https://getinvolved.crd.bc.ca/biosolids/surveys/comment-form I support using new technologies that do not involve incineration or fossil fuels for the thermal conversion of biosolids to eliminate all toxic chemicals and produce beneficial use in biochar and fossil free energy. I support the continued ban on all land application of biosolids in the CRD, including at Hartland. Comments will remain anonymous and be collected and shared with the CRD Board as part of the planning process and ahead of a June 12th meeting. |

Energy Mix publisher and TEDx speaker Mitchell Beer, will discuss the latest climate news with reasons for optimism and practical steps to solutions we can all take to help build the structural change we need. "It’s easy enough to fall into a pit of despair over the climate emergency. Especially because, if you read the news or conduct a five-minute Google search, there’s more than enough evidence to tell us that all is lost. Except that that’s just half of the story. There’s no question that we have a lot of ground to cover in very little time to avert the worst impacts of climate change. But in recent years, the momentum has shifted, the wins have begun piling up, and for the first time, we’re starting to see some legitimate, green chutes of something that might just look like…hope," says Beer. Energy Mix is a non-profit community news site and e-digest series on climate change, energy, and the shift off carbon. Mitchell Beer traces his background in energy alternatives to 1977 and in climate change to 1997. |

In early June, executives from the largest fossil fuel companies in Canada – Enbridge, Imperial, Cenovus, Enbridge, and Shell – will testify before the House of Commons’ Environment Committee. The purpose of their summons? To answer for their failure to rein in climate-wrecking carbon emissions. We call on members of the Environment Committee — of all political stripes — to pull no punches, and ask the hard-hitting questions that will force fossil fuel executives to answer for their climate crimes.
