In with the new! Weekly club activities for Spring and Summer

There's a revamped weekly activities timetable for Spring and Summer 2024, see below and view and download the timetable (PDF) here which includes Matt's new Monday sessions for youth and adult players, and revised times for club social sessions on Tuesdays and Saturdays; more opportunity to turn up and play!

Date for the diary...👇

The club's open weekend, called the Big Tennis Weekend, is coming soon - please let Matt know if you'd like to volunteer.

Box League entries now open - enter by 1st May! 🏆

The summer Box League will soon be underway once more (pictured above are last year's shining trophies) - and the deadline to enter is 1st May, so grab a partner and get your names down!

It's open to all club members, regardless of perceived ability - while there is a competitive element, Box League games are great fun and a glorified excuse to get on court and play some different opposition.

How it works:

> You play the best of three sets, with one point available per set won.

> The final set is only played if it's one set all, and the final set can be played as a full set or a deciding tie-break to 10 points.

> The first stage is a round robin, where you'll be placed in a group of about four and play roughly three games between May and the end of July.

> The top two will qualify for the main semi finals, third and fourth will qualify for the plate semi finals.

> Semi finals will be a straight knockout played during August.

> Finals of main and plate will be invited to finals day along with all members for our Finals day social in September.

Matt keeps an overall tally of scores and progress - but all matches are to be arranged in players' own time.

There are seven different competitions to enter

  1. Ladies Singles

  2. Mens Singles

  3. Senior Mixed Singles (55+)

  4. Mixed Doubles

  5. Ladies Doubles

  6. Men's Singles

  7. Junior Singles (U18)

It's £3 entry per person per competition - to enter please email Matt at mattlast69@googlemail.com or club@saxtennis.co.uk with your name, partner's name, and best contact number.

*** The deadline to enter is 1st May!!!***

Tennis marathon coming up! 🎾

Could you be our next Welfare Officer?

Our Welfare Officer Nicole Hobson will not be taking up the role again next year so the club will be looking to appoint someone new into the role from March 2025.

Nicole said: "The Welfare Officer role is not something that is overly onerous or anything to fear! Welfare Officers will receive a short training session (if you're not already trained) and your key role is to ensure safeguarding is very much on the ‘agenda’ at our venue."

This includes supporting everyone at the club to pass any concerns to the National Safeguarding Team who will investigate further. Anyone interested in this voluntary role will need to demonstrate that they're approachable and trustworthy, engaging and supportive, able to resolve conflict, a good listener, and professional and helpful. The role also requires a DBS check. You can read more in Nicole's AGM report here (see page 4).

If you'd like to discuss further, please email club@saxtennis.co.uk or contact Nicole (see details above).

Read the AGM reports 🤓

Our club AGM took place on 3rd April in the luxurious bowls section of the Greencourt Pavilion (with thanks). So why not make a cuppa, pull up a chair, and read all of our end-of-year reports from committee members including match captains, here.
