"Wind is the spearhead of 1000 diseases". The simplest advice I can give is to cover your skin from the cold wind; hat, coat, sweater, and scarf. The neck is the gateway between the earthly body and the heavens, so covering your bare neck with a scarf, or appropriate clothing, will be protecting your first line of defense. If you do come down with a cold, in Chinese Medical theory it is being held in the superficial Wei Qi level. Sweat it out! Take a hot shower or bath, or eat spicy food. You can also place herbs and hot water in a bowl on a table, then lean over it with a towel over your head and the bowl. Take deep soothing breathes; inhale oxygen and peace, and exhale visualizing the Wind being pushed out. |

| | It is always best to eat in season which can be a challenge in the winter. Think about squash, apples, grains, nuts, mushrooms, asparagus, leeks, dates, pears and warming herbs (horseradish, alliums, cinnamon, ginger, thyme, etc). Avoid raw, cold food as well as dairy. In the acute phase of being sick, eat soups, and avoid the sour flavor. | | |
