Best wishes to Tony Tarzia, Terry Ingram and Arnold Jones and to all members recovering from injury or illness.  James Williams (for the 20th year) and Debbie Napier are off to officiate at the Australian Open in January.

Congratulations to John Di Noto on being selected as our Club Member of the Year for 2019.  John has made a fantastic contribution as mens captain organising pennant teams, liaising with Tenniswest and setting up survey monkey.

December Nationals

James Newton, Ksenja Vujacic, Ella Nurkic, Matt Burton, Lily Fairclough and Kendrick Chia and Ethan Cook all competed in the recent national junior championships in Melbourne.  Of particular note were the following results:

Lily Fairclough made the semi finals of the 14 & under

Ella Nurkic made the quarter finals of the 16 & under

Ethan Cook made the semi finals of the 16 & under

Congratulations Applecross Senior High School boys team who won the Australian Championship.  Amongst the team were 2 Hensman members being Matt Burton and Kendrick Chia.  The 2 teachers of the program are Lance Hinds (who has played State League for Hensman) and Lee Jarvinen.  The girls finished a creditable 5th.

At Opening Day Monet Chandler was presented with the most improved junior girl award and Bryce Gottado with the most improved junior boy award.  Here they are pictured with Colin Napier and Rhys Chester of Ian Hutchison Real Estate.  In addition, Matt Burton was awarded the Johnny Miller Scholarship for the 2019/20 year.

Tennis in the USA....

College tennis continues to be a big drawcard for our local players with Jaime Edwards (pictured) due to leave in January for Winthrop University in South Carolina.  She joins recent "departees" Lucas Dunlop and Nadia Rajan (Rhode Island) who went across in August.  Good luck with the tennis and the overall experience.  As an aside, Jaime is the third Hensman girl to go to Winthrop following Caitlin Cridland and Meg Kaufman.

This brings the overall tally of Hensman people playing US college tennis up to 7!

Wednesday Afternoon Xmas Tea

As has now become the tradition, Peter Hollows generously prepares and provides a Xmas Afternoon tea.  This year, people were treated to an array of mussels, prawns, cheeses and other delights.  Catering for over 25 hungry people is no mean feat......thanks Peter for the effort you go to - there was a terrific atmosphere and great spread of food.

Life member Clive Wilderspin and the greatest male player WA has produced was inducted as a "Legend" at the recent Tenniswest Awards Night.  (pictured with his award with Colin Napier).  Clive was unbeatable in WA at his peak and played in the golden era of Australian tennis - he won the Australian Junior Boys Singles, was runner up in the mens doubles at the French Open (with Mervyn Rose), runner up at the Australian Open (with Neale Fraser) and was the Australian Tennis Veteran of the Year in 1979.  He also made an outstanding contribution outside his playing career being a WA State Selector for many years.

For our final Xmas picture, here is a photo of our "Tuesday Tarts" at their Xmas celebration... looks like they're having a great time as usual!!

From all the Board, we wish members a Merry Christmas and look forward to seeing you on the court in the New Year.

Also, our thanks to June Rundle for putting the Christmas tree up in the clubhouse and a special mention to Ken McIntosh for his efforts getting the cubhouse painted and the floor of the hall upgraded.

Please support our sponsors wherever you can and let them know you're from Hensman.  We very much appreciate their support and want to ensure they get maximum value for their sponsorship so we build a long term relationship.
