Huế Professional Chef Challenge with U.S. Chicken |

Fifteen professional chef teams from hotels, resorts, and restaurants in Huế, Vietnam, and the central region gathered on July 10 to showcase their skills at the Indochine Palace Huế. The morning began with a masterclass on safe poultry handling by Chef Norbert Ehrbar, followed by a series of captivating recipe demonstrations. In the afternoon, the heat intensified as the chefs faced off in a high-stakes cooking contest. Armed with U.S. chicken, each team had 75 minutes to create two stunning dishes: a regional specialty and a main course. |

U.S. Food & Beverage Showcase in Vietnam |

On July 12, USAPEEC participated in the U.S. Food & Beverage Showcase, organized by FAS, the U.S. Embassy, at Furama Resort Danang. The event drew 250 attendees, including F&B importers, distributors, retailers, hotel and restaurant managers, chefs, and media representatives from the central region of Vietnam. Guests had the opportunity to experience the high quality of U.S. chicken products through samples prepared by our consultant chef. |

The culinary scene in the Ninh Tuan province, Vietnam, was lit ablaze on July 26 when 14 talented chef teams from hotels, resorts, and restaurants in the region competed to see who could craft the best U.S. chicken dishes. The event, at Hoan My Resort Ninh Chu, sparked off with a masterclass on poultry safety by Chef Doan Van Tuan, followed by a series of inspiring recipe demonstrations before the intense 75-minute cook-off took center stage. Each team had 75 minutes to prepare two dishes using U.S. chicken: one dish using ingredients of their own choice and another using ingredients from a mystery box. |

Cold chain seminar in the Philippines |

In June, the USA Poultry and Egg Export Council, supported by the Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council, hosted a seminar on maintaining the proper cold chain for importers handling U.S. poultry products at Belcris Foods warehouse in Cebu City. The event attracted 26 attendees. Mr. Rommel Gerodias, a Certified ServSafe instructor, led the seminar, emphasizing the critical importance of temperature control throughout the food supply chain. His focus was on best practices for warehouse management and the practical implementation of these protocols. Participants appreciated the updated information and planned to apply their newfound knowledge in their respective roles, underscoring the seminar's practical relevance and value. |

Completion of Singapore's fourth egg farm in jeopardy |

Singapore contemplates importing eggs and meat from Vietnam |
|
|
ISE Foods Holdings, the company that owns the farm, slated to be operational by 2024, and has already delayed its opening several times, may be re-evaluating the farm's viability against a background of unexpected rising costs and challenges linked to its biosecurity measures in light of increased disease incidents in the region. The company is currently discussing with the SFA for more funding support and greater land allocation to support the additional biosecurity measures. The massive US$76.5 million farm is expected to produce 360 million eggs annually. Combined with the three existing egg farms, it will be able to supply up to 50% of Singapore's egg consumption. Currently, the existing farms account for 31.9% of egg consumption in Singapore. |

The Prawirotaman-Tirtodipuran district in Yogyakarta has recently been declared the first cage-free district in Indonesia. Of the 83 companies that have committed to sourcing only cage-free eggs in the country, 18 are in Yogyakarta. |

Malaysia helps Vietnam with access to halal market |
|
|
A major highlight of July's Vietnam-Malaysia Joint Trade Committee was the focus on a halal industry collaboration between Vietnam and Malaysia. A memorandum of cooperation between Malaysia’s Halal Development Corporation and Vietnam is in the works while Vietnam has also agreed to establish an agency dedicated to Halal matters. This collaboration could enable products from Vietnam to access nearly two billion Muslims worldwide. |

Thai organic chicken producer broadens retail reach |
|
|
Tan-Khun Organic Farm, an organic chicken producer, has installed freezers in 12 supermarkets to sell its chilled and processed chicken items and enhance brand visibility among consumers. The company plans to broaden to 20 supermarkets by year-end. From Tan-Khun's online shop, a 400 g pack of organic chicken thigh costs US$4.51 and a 400 g pack of organic chicken drumsticks costs US$4.36. |

Food Moments, a Thai holding company specializing in processing fresh, chilled, and frozen chicken products for both domestic and international markets, has recently made its debut on the Stock Exchange of Thailand with a market capitalization of US$148.3 million. The company plans to allocate these funds to improving the production capacity of its facilities. |

Myanmar provides low-interest loans to livestock farmers |
|
|
Starting in August, poultry farmers can apply for a two-year loan at a 2% annual interest rate from Myanmar’s Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department, which has set aside a loan pool of US$3.69 million. |

Cambodia Cambodia detects second human case of H5N1 in one week In the first week of August, Cambodia saw two cases of H5N1 avian influenza, both in the province of Svay Rieng. The official investigation of the second case revealed that nine chickens perished at both the patient's and their neighbor's residences leading up to the illness. The patient had direct contact with these dead chickens. |

INDONESIA ID Food donates chicken eggs and meat to at-risk families ID Food, the holding company of several state-owned food companies, will donate chicken eggs and meat to 560,000 stunting-risk families in seven provinces from August to October. Each family will receive 10 chicken eggs and 1 kg of frozen chicken meat. ID Food's subsidiaries such as Nusindo, PT Berdikari, and PT PPI will give out the packages. This initiative is also expected to stabilize egg and chicken prices at the farmer level. |

Singapore New chicken restaurant brand opens its doors S.O.S. Chicken specializes in selling tender, juicy charcoal-grilled chicken, brined and marinated with 16 secret ingredients for over 12 hours, and served with an array of Stand Out Sauces (S.O.S) that reflect Singapore's diverse culinary scene. Diners can enjoy the brand's chicken by itself or paired with their carbohydrate of choice. |

Thailand Chinese chicken fast-food restaurant forays into the Thai market Zhengxin Chicken Steak, a Chinese chicken fast-food franchise, has opened two branches in Bangkok, offering food options that undercut the prices of the country's market leader – KFC. For example, its fried chicken thigh costs US$0.69/piece while KFC's is US$1.24. Thailand's fried chicken restaurant industry is forecast to hit US$740 million this year. Taco Bell expands into tourist hubs starting with Chiang Mai As part of Taco Bell's strategy to capitalize on the recovery and growth of Thailand’s tourism industry, it opened its first outlet in Tha Phae Gate, Chiang Mai, a popular tourist location. Taco Bell expects 40% of its customers to be foreigners. |
