On March 23 and 24, I will be providing visual accompaniment to local musician Jordan Hamilton during a concert in the Grand Rapids Public Museum's Roger B. Chaffee Planetarium. Before Studio Hromi began, I worked at GRPM as the Planetarium & Theater Manager (a career that spanned five years!) and Concerts Under the Stars was a series of events that I actually started and coordinated during my time there. It has been a delight to see them continue under the current planetarium leadership, and an even bigger delight to be invited back as one of this year's visual artists. Though it was once my job, it's been 3+ years at this point since I've done any fulldome video production (or animation in general) and I've already had a lot of fun as I've started to dust off those skills while preparing for the show. I might even share some snippets on Instagram as things progress, so keep an eye out for that if you follow me there!
About Concerts Under the Stars:
Concerts Under the Stars are immersive fulldome concert experiences highlighting local musicians and visual artists. Local West Michigan bands perform their music, enhanced by original video art projected onto the planetarium’s 50-foot dome. Musicians and visual artists collaborate to weave together an exclusive immersive concert experience that has quickly become a staple of the underground West Michigan music scene.
