New Year. New Beginnings.

Welcome to the inaugural edition of the Happy Day Plants monthly newsletter. I first want to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU for supporting our houseplant shop! Since we opened our doors in November, I never in my wildest dreams would have imagined the outpouring of support and love we have received. Being able to share my love of plants and vision for our new retail location during the holiday season, was as every bit chaotic and joyful as you can imagine!

Every plant purchased helps support the mission of Happy Day Plants, which is to provide meaningful employment opportunities for adults with disabilities in our local community. I am happy to report we currently have three wonderful young adult staff members who are not only learning life skills, but tapping into their talents which grows confidence and self-worth.

My heart is filled with hope and delight knowing Happy Day Plants is part of our beautiful downtown Longmont local business community. Thank you again for welcoming Happy Day Plants with open arms!

Cheers,

Jessica Birmingham

What's New in the Shop

If you have not had a chance to stop in since our grand opening, we have added lots of new merchandise, planters and plant varieties. We are carrying beautiful new products from Seattle Seed Company, another family-owned and operated business.

Houseplant Care 101: Surviving the Winter

Many houseplants enter a dormant phase in the winter. Dry air, fluctuations in temperature and reduced sunlight can be stressful for houseplants. Keep in mind these general guidelines. If you have questions, please give the shop a call. We are happy to help!

1. Adjust watering schedules. Dormant plants need about 25% less water due to their slower rate of growth during the winter. Use room temperature water.

2. Fluctuations in temperature can kill houseplants. Keep plants away from both cold drafts and sources of heat such as fireplaces.

3. With fewer hours of sunlight during winter, you may need to relocate your houseplants to a brighter spot or add supplemental light. Remember, you do not need to fertilize in the winter.

5. Houseplants may need a boost in humidity by misting the air around them once or twice a week or placing them near a humidifier.
