October brings a change of season and more fine art! |

Note from the Director October 2021 by Patricia Cream Fall is a wonderful time of the year. The temperature drops a little and the colors of fall are an artist’s playground with yellows, golds, oranges, and reds. One of my favorite fall quotes is “Every leaf speaks bliss to me, fluttering from the autumn tree,” by Emily Bronte. For me, I love painting with yellows, oranges, and reds. These colors are bold and strong, but they give me a sense of peace. We can all use a little more peace. One of our very own gallery artists—Jeff Warren-- will be exhibiting his oil paintings in the salon show, “The Dramatic and Fanciful Art of Jeff Warren.” This show will include many different styles of his paintings—photo-realism, surrealism, and still life. All of Jeff’s paintings portray his wonderful sense of humor and a touch of his 25-year acting career. The next First Friday ARTScrawl Artist Reception will be on Friday, October 1st, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Come meet the artist and listen to how he comes up with his great ideas! Jeff’s work will be in the salon through October. The Featured Artist for October is Risa Taylor (oil and acrylic). Risa is a member of the New Mexico Chapter of Plein Air painters. Risa combines her love of the outdoors with her love of painting. In the Salon in October The Dramatic and Fanciful Art of Jeff Warren |
The Dramatic and Fanciful Art of Jeff Warren by Linda Weiss The Gallery ABQ is featuring “The Dramatic and Fanciful Art of Jeff Warren” in the salon show during the month of October. The First Friday artist’s reception is October 1, 2021, from 5-8:00 pm. The show features Jeff’s many styles of painting, including photo-realism, surrealism, and still life, all with an expression of Jeff’s sense of humor. One can also see glimpses of his 25-year acting career in the drama of his paintings. The artist is a big fan of Salvador Dali, and some paintings are a tribute to him. These include Hello, Dali; Dali’s Bar and Grill; and The Garden of Salvador Dahlia. Jeff is also inspired by artists such as Maxfield Parrish, Vincent van Gogh, and Johannes Vermeer. Jeff explains that he uses photography and the computer to come up with his compositions, and that process is time-consuming. He traces the image on acetate and copies it onto a panel. He then has a cartoon of the whole painting. Painting the final piece in oils goes quickly, and he likens it to painting by the numbers when he was a child, except that the colors and numbers are his. Jeff’s ideas can come from anywhere, including dreams. For example, the phrase “fork in the road,” can capture his imagination and be the spark for a new painting. When asked, “What do you like most about your painting style?” Jeff says, “Clarity. I like realism. I am careful and deliberate with my brush stroke and my choice of color.” We look forward to experiencing Jeff’s clarity and sense of humor in his salon show on October 1, 2021. |

October Featured Artist: Risa Taylor |
Risa Taylor (oil and acrylic) by Linda Weiss Risa Taylor is the October Featured Artist at The Gallery ABQ reception on October 1, 2021, from 5-8:00 pm. Risa is a member of the Plein Air Painters of New Mexico, a group of artists who paint outdoors. Plein Air painting combines Risa’s love for the outdoors with her love of painting. Risa’s paintings are in the style of the Colorists (paintings that use color to magnify natural beauty), and Risa says that color is what drives her art. She finds color in the New Mexico landscape, and she enhances that color in her paintings. Risa’s first love was the Impressionist artists, and she currently is most inspired by Canada’s “The Group of Seven.” Risa starts a painting by covering the canvas in black gesso. She says this makes her colors “pop,” and it also smooths and seals the canvas. Risa paints about five paintings a month, and the bright colors of her paintings bring joy to her followers. When asked, “What do you like most about being a painter?” Risa answered, “I love every part of painting New Mexico.” Come meet Risa on October 1 and learn more about Plein Air painting directly from the artist herself! |
