QUOTE OF THE MONTH

"When we shame poor people for daring to live for a moment like they are not at the mercy of others, we deny them the opportunity to live like actual human beings worthy of dignity and respect."

- Ijeoma Oluo, in The Establishment

SEPTEMBER IS HUNGER ACTION MONTH

In September, Lakeshore Food Club is joining food banks and pantries across the country to raise awareness and generate action to fight hunger in our communities.

How can you support hunger-relief efforts? There’s a way for everyone to get involved:

  • Donate: Donate money through direct giving, a Facebook fundraiser, through the Benefit app or by organizing your organization or club to raise funds.
  • Volunteer: Volunteer your time at the Food Club, or volunteer your professional services to help raise awareness and offset operational costs.
  • Advocate: Use your voice to let decision-makers and government representatives know that YOU care about making hunger relief and systematic change a legislative priority.
  • Educate: friends, children and community members about the impact of hunger and need for action.

COOKING MATTERS WORKSHOP

Mason County residents who participate in Medicaid, WIC, National School Lunch Program, SNAP Food Stamp Program OR the Lakeshore Food Club are eligible to attend a "Cooking Matters" workshop at no charge!

MSU Extension and their guest chef will teach you how to select nutritious, budget-friendly ingredients and use them to prepare healthy meals for you and your family.  BONUS: participants will be taking home groceries!

To register, contact Kendra at the MSU Extension Office at 231-845-3361 or email gibso126@msu.edu

MEIJER SIMPLY GIVE CAMPAIGN

Ludington Meijer is partnering with Lakeshore Food Club for the Fall Simply Give Campaign running until Saturday, September 15th.  Meijer customers are encouraged to purchase Meijer Simply Give donation cards with the donations going directly to the Food Club to help replenish the shelves and serve local families.

Giving is Easy with the Benefit Mobile App

Introducing "BENEFIT"… a mobile app that allows you to give back to the Food Club, all while doing what you already do!  BENEFIT partners with tons of retailers you already use and gives 2-20% of your purchase dollars to your beneficiary of choice (like LFC).

How does it work?  1. Download the app.   2. Attach your form of payment.  3. Instead of directly checking out with your credit card, purchase a gift card from retailers.  4. Use the digital gift card whether you check out online or in person.  5. Boom - you’ve just donated to a great cause!

It’s so easy, and it’s a great way to give while you go about your daily activities.  Just a couple extra clicks.
