Good afternoon.
Braxton Winston was arrested and charged with "failure to disperse upon command" at 10pm last night. He was held on a $1,000 unsecured bond. He was released at 1am.
Braxton went to Beatties Ford Road in his official capacity as City Council Member At Large. He went in an attempt to de-escalate the tensions between the police and the citizens of Charlotte. During the time he was out there, he was in communication with CMPD, press, community leaders, and protesters.
In the video below, you can see Braxton and the physical position he maintained at the time of his arrest. There is more context for the entire night, but this gives you some perspective.
He is now in a legal process. We are confident that the whole truth will be presented and Braxton will be exonerated of any wrongdoing.
We wanted you to know first. We'll stay in touch as the situation evolves.
Thank you,
Braxton Winston Campaign
