KAY BLADA RECYCLING

Monthly Newsletter: February 2020

Construction continues on Kay Blada's facility in Hinche.

Students in Hinche take Field Trips to Visit Kay Blada Recycling

Starting soon, school children in Kay Blada's education program will be taking field trips to visit Kay Blada's recycling collection center outside of town. Each Friday, one class will visit the facility to learn about how recycling works and what they can do to protect the environment.

"That way, the kids can have this great experience - which in the long run will contribute in their environmental education, and they will potentially feel more empowered to educate their parents. Right now, we are working on creating small handouts for them to take home to show people/parents at home and in their neighborhoods."

Construction Continues on Kay Blada's New Location in Hinche

On Blada's work trip to Haiti in December, Kay Blada Recycling's new location in Hinche was opened to the public in an exciting inauguration ceremony. Since then, construction projects have continued to improve the site for the employees. A cement floor still has to be poured and then the facility will be wired for electricity, a luxury we have never had! The site's septic tank and working shelter both need to be finished, as well. A new fundraising campaign will be starting soon to finish these important projects. For now, the facility is in use and Kay Blada now has the capacity to recycle more materials than ever.

Volunteer with Kay Blada

Kay Blada Recycling is currently searching for new board members and committee members to volunteer in the US. We are in need of a variety of skills - grant writing, technical expertise, non-profit experience - but most importantly, a commitment to improving quality of life in Haiti.

We are particularly looking for people with experience in fundraising or grant writing. As an organization, we are always seeking out other sources of funding to create more impact in the communities that we serve.

If you think you may be able to donate some of your time to Kay Blada, contact kaybladarecycling@gmail.com. We look forward to hearing from you!

Meet our Staff

Our staff in Haiti are a key part of our operation. They keep the program running smoothly and efficiently, interact with daily plastic collectors, and administer our education programs. The work that Kay Blada does involves volunteers in the US, independent plastic collectors in Haiti, and this small group of full-time employees who manage our operations. Meet our full-time employees on our new staff page.
