Dear Seafoodies
We've had some great weather (and hay fever!) for the last couple of weeks, but it seems the weather has not been being so kind to our fishermen. Recently, the stall has largely been devoid of fin fish but abundant with shellfish. Still, if that's what we can buy, that's what can eat! But we also look forward to the return of the fish with eager anticipation.
There are now 16 recipes and ideas posted, and because of the above, they are almost all for shellfish. Nevertheless, summer months are a great time to be eating lobster and scallops, and I certainly have been.
Lobster is at it's cheapest point in the year, roughly half the price it is during the Christmas period, but it will start going up soon. So, it's a great time to be enjoying more adventurous dishes of lobster, for example, see the recipe for Goan Lobster. Lobster takes to spice much more pleasingly than perhaps some may approve of, and I've been making that recipe for years. For more 'classic ' recipes see:
Summer months area also a great time for scallops while the divers are able to harvest. For the shuck-shy, of course, there are tubs of pre-shucked scallops available on the stall. I have tried them recently - they are outstanding! Whether you prefer your scallops shucked or not, have a look at the following recipes:
There are also recipes for whelks, cockles, clams and more...
No doubt the fish will be back on the stall any time soon, so there will be plenty to write about and post. Either way, lots of ideas here for what to do with shellfish at the perfect time of the year for them.
Wishing you a fishy weekend, and please do invite your friends and fellow seafoodies to visit and subscribe.
