Discovering the Rim Lakes This past weekend Discover Gila County was out "Discovering" and we came across an absolute gem! Known for its fall colors, the See Spring Trail, located near Christopher Creek, Arizona is also an amazing summer trail. It is easy enough for seniors and families with small children (not younger than 5). It has a breathtaking tree canopy (almost looks like Oregon or parts of northern New York), water falls, wildlife and we saw only two couples during the whole time we were there. So if you are looking to get out of the heat and bring the whole family for an outdoor adventure, put the See Spring Trail on your list! Also make sure you return in the fall as this is one of the most beautiful trails in northern Arizona when the leaves change.
Directions: Take Arizona 260 to the Turn off of Christopher Creek Loop, then take a left on Forest Service Road 284 and follow it to the trail head. When you get to the trailhead take the entrance closest to the bathrooms. Enjoy!! |

In the first part, I drove up Highway 260 to the top of the Rim and met up with a friend and fellow “squatcher” named Roland. We traveled to a location with a lengthy history of activity, including at least two sightings. Arriving in the late afternoon, we parked our vans about 40 feet apart in a small clearing, so our side doors faced each other across an open area to set up camp for the night. |
