NGPC MESQUITE, AZ

JAN 15-17

NGPC Round 1 at Mesquite, AZ kicked off the 2021 season! Nerves were high with anticipation of where everyone would stack up after the short off season and many riders coming back into the field from injuries. The last minute venue change from Delano to Mesquite left many teams and riders scrambling to change gears and focus preparations differently. The owners of Mesquite MX did an awesome job hosting and want to thank them for putting on a great race!

New for Purvines Racing this season is the addition of Ava Silvestri competing in women's pro and Thomas Dunn signing a contract with us to ride pro 250 in WORCS and NGPC. Mason Ottersberg is back from injury and ready to get back to his consistency on the podium. Tyler Lynn is now riding in the open pro class with the big boys and Justin Seeds is riding Vet Pro to maintain rider feed back for the rest of the team and allow us to get more knowledge about the track.

TYLER LYNN

6TH

PRO

Tyler Lynn back for another season, but on the 450 in the open pro class. For having a short off season and very little testing, he finished a solid 6th place against the best. We will continue to get him more dialed in on his set up to ensure he can leave it all out on the track and contend for podiums.

In his words: "The race started a little slow for me as I got a mid pack start and just struggled to find the pace with all the 450 guys. I got super pumped up and just kept on making dumb mistakes for around the first 2 laps. I finally found a flow and started putting lines together and every lap I felt better and better. I had a super good battle with Austin Walton for 5th position but just couldn’t make the pass happen before the finish. Coming into the finish 6th I was really happy with that and it’s a good way to start the year off. We’re gonna keep on working and make our way the that podium spot. Thanks to all that make this possible."

MASON OTTERSBERG

6TH

PRO 250

Mason Ottersberg is finally back on the bike after nearly two months off due to a foot injury sustained in the 2020 season. He hasn't missed a beat with training and is nearing his normal form. He only had two weeks on the motorcycle coming into round 1 and needs some more on the bike training to get back to where he needs to be. Finishing in 6th place in the newly stacked pro 250 class; we are happy with this starting point to build on for him.

In his words: "I feels so good to be back racing and with Purvines Racing Yamaha for another year. I have been itching to be back to where I was before I got hurt and I am doing everything possible to be there. I am not entirely satisfied with my result, but it is a good step forward to get back to where I was. I struggled with arm pump for the first 45 minutes and after the pit I settled into a better flow. Looking forward to the process, I am ready to win races and championships."

JUSTIN SEEDS

2ND

VET PRO

Justin Seeds is officially a VET rider. Riding the 30+ Vet Pro class with the rest of the fast retired pros makes for a fun class to watch. Justin and Robby Bell had a good battle the entire race and they both hung it out for bragging rights. Justin finished second to robby just seconds behind. Justin is a valuable asset in providing feed back to our pro riders about track development and line choices.

In his words: "Off the Started I was running 4th but was able to make a quick pass into 3rd. After about half way of the first lap I found myself out front but had a hard charging Robby bell coming for me. Unfortunately I had a crash coming into a corner and with Robby right on my tail I wasn’t able to get up fast enough. We had one heck of a battle back and forth with myself taking second 1.5 seconds behind at the finish. Can’t wait for the next round to have another great race weekend"

THOMAS DUNN

22ND

PRO 250

Thomas Dunn has been struggling with a thumb injury since the end of the 2020 season. He has had it looked at by a doctor with no significant damage reported, but has lingering pain. On top of that he came down with a head cold so naturally he struggled to perform this weekend. We look forward to him getting healthy so we can see him back to speed.

In his words: "This weekend was tough. I came in sick and just didn’t have the energy to ride to my full potential. Feeling really comfortable on the bike and looking forward to Havasu next weekend."

AVA SILVESTRI

4TH

WOMEN'S PRO

Ava Silvestri is a talented young lady with the potential to win the women's pro class. Just 16 years old and a whole life ahead of her. She showed strong speed and finished 4th place. With time and work we see her future to be exceptionally successful.

In her words: "Not the way I wanted to start out the 2021 season but you can’t win them all and I’m glad to be able to walk away healthy. It just wasn’t my weekend but I tried my best to salvage some points. Ready to put this weekend behind me and move on and be ready for the rest of the season to show what I can do."

CAITLYN KURTZ

2ND

WOMEN'S EXPERT

Caitlyn Kurtz came into the first round as strong as ever. Ending the weekend on a good note with two podiums and more experience to move forward with through the 2021 season.

In her words: "A great start to a great season at round one of the NGPC series at Mesquite! My race Saturday went well, I had a great start and held second place throughout the entirety of the race in the Women’s Expert class! Sunday’s race was pretty rough, my goal was to keep the bike on two wheels and keep a steady pace. This however, happened to be what put me out front after a mid pack start that had me third in class. Keeping a steady pace allowed me to push through and take first place in the Women’s Four-Stroke Open A class."
