Visual Artist Attilio Giordano By referencing a restless universe intertwined with the world of childhood, focusing on the strong presence of female figures, or delving into the profound realms where these images reside. There is a constant tension between compositional requirements that seem to impose symmetries, providing stability and certainty, and a deviation from the 'norm', an infringement of custom and conventions. In recent years, Giordano has returned to using graphite, and his artistic language has become more essential, with a prevalence of black and white, alternating with the use of industrial enamels, predominantly red and white. The central theme revolves around the world of childhood, a slender figure surrounded by typically childish symbolism, reinforcing iconographic dramatics. by Beatrice Buscaroli Main exhibitions: 2022 - ‘The sign of innocence’, Carta Bianca Fine Arts Gallery, Catania, Italy. 2016 - ‘The colorful space childhood’, curated by Lorenzo Canova, Catania Art Gallery, Catania, Italy. 2014 - ‘Attilio Giordano - Recent works’ Filippo Pananti Gallery, Florence, Italy. 2013 - ‘Meditations’, curated by Beatrice Buscaroli, Catania Art Gallery, Catania, Italy. 2012 - ‘If only you would look at me’, curated by Antonio D'Amico, Arionte Contemporary Art, Catania, Italy. 2011 - ‘The situation of women in Mediterranean’, curated by Paolo Giansiracusa, Steri Gallery, Siracuse, Italy. 2006 - ‘Mond'Art’, Mondadori library, Catania, Italy. 2000 - ‘Lights and Shadows’, Contemporary Space |

_______________________________ Visual artist filmmaker Antonino Pilade "Inner Me" is a profound concept I explore through various art forms such as paintings and sculptures and photography. These creative expressions act as mirrors, reflecting the emotions defining our era, capturing modern fears, enigmatic aspects of existence, and deep love and understanding. At times overlooked, they resurface, transcending physical forms to resonate within us. Rediscovered, they guide self-reflection, fostering empathy. Once forgotten, they find their way back, rekindling within us and sparking introspection and empathy. The rediscovery leads us on a journey of self-reflection, providing solace in the realisation that they are profound reflections of the human condition. These representations, reminders of our shared humanity, connect us on a deeper level, fostering interconnectedness. The "Inner Me" speaks to our capacity for growth, urging us to delve into our hearts, embrace vulnerability, and engage with our emotions. Once on the brink of annihilation, these representations now serve as beacons of hope, guiding us to a profound understanding of ourselves and the world. _______________________________ Visual artist and workshop facilitator Marianna Zoumpliou I observe people and places and depict what they are trying to hide. Her work explores the invisible, whimsical layer of the sublime that covers our everyday life. She is influenced by mythologies and the folklore. Her inspiration springs from the Greek legends she learned as a child and goes to a place where all origins blend. More particularly she is interested in the female figure in the folk tales and the ancient archetypes founding the presence of women today. In her ‘Boxes Series’, people are compared to boxes. They both have different sides, different aspects of their personalities that emerge when certain people are around them. We act different at work, at home, with loved ones and strangers, but how do we act when we are alone? Marianna works as Learning Officer at the Saatchi Gallery, delivering artistic activities to schools and community groups. She has exhibited her works at Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair, the Espacio Gallery, Trinity Art Gallery and the Ritzy in Brixton among others. |
