Happy New Year!

Wintry greetings, my friends! I hope you're all having very happy holidays and are looking forward to 2023. We've had a pleasantly quiet Thanksgiving and Christmas with family and are looking forward to welcoming the new year with the running of the dragon and croaker drop in Oriental this year (which, in case you don't know, is an awesome little sailing village in coastal North Carolina, and one of my favorite places).

Our holiday card this year was inspired by our trip to Alaska this past June. We didn't see owls or snow—those were added from my imagination—but we saw a lot of moose!

In this newsletter, I have some new little paintings, a few announcements, and upcoming classes to tell you about.

New Artwork:

Aside from the winter scene I painted for our holiday cards, (above, with the moose and barred owl), I've painted a slew of other little winter scenes, all featuring snowy landscapes with cardinals, snowy evergreen trees, and bare deciduous tree branches. Some of these were done with students in my classes and some I did just for fun, on my own. A few are shown below, and there are more in my Etsy shop. New Our State project for the New Year:

Awesome news! Our State magazine has asked me to come on board for another project. During the entire year of 2023, I'll be doing illustrations for a new column called A Year in this House. In addition, I've done this little painting of the writer's house (above), which will appear in the top corner of the column page of each issue, for all 12 issues in '23. The first illustrations appear in the January issue of Our State, on page 32. The author is a popular Our State columnist and novelist, Drew Perry.
