🌱 Place of Growth 🌱

We want to thank everyone who joined us for the Harvest Festival on Sunday 11 September, and our funder, Dandelion, who gave us this opportunity!

From getting our faces painted to tote bag decorating, delicious food from our Community Kitchen, and folk music in the rain, it was a day packed with activities

and fun!

Look forward to more of these types of events in the future.🤗

🌱 Volunteer Update 🌱

We are currently pausing our volunteering sign ups. You can still register your interest with us for future and upcoming opportunities.

🎥 'A Portrait of Sheku Bayoh' 🎥

After a beautifully busy community meal last night, we welcomed Not One Rogue Cop with a screening of 'A Portrait of Sheku Bayoh'.

A powerful reminder that Black Lives Matter movement is just as important in Scotland as further afield, this was also a call to action as the inquiry into Sheku's death is about to resume, and his family and friends will appreciate public support as this takes place.

📢 UPCOMING EVENTS 📢

Thursday, 6th October

Stories of People and Trees

We will be welcoming a local artist, Jessica Kerr, to our Thursday community meal. Jessica will play some music on her cello, share stories, and talk about her project, Stories of People and Trees, which invites stories of connection to trees and will grow an online home that records these important narratives of attunement to nature for everyone to access and enjoy.

Glasgow Tool Library at Kinning Park Complex!

We are very excited to have launched our partnership with Glasgow Tool Library! If you need to borrow equipment for any DIY projects, you'll be able to access them at Kinning Park Complex every Thursday, from 4 to 8pm. It works just like a normal library, but instead of sharing books they share tools and skills!

Thursday 6th October

4–6pm Stitch & Blether

The final Stitch & Blether session with artist tsBeall is coming next week. Learn basic embroidery as you work alongside artist tsBeall to stitch the words and stories of careworkers onto NHS uniforms. We will be embroidering words and phrases taken from interviews of careworkers during lockdown.

Transcripts of stories will be available at each session to read.

Come for a stitch, a blether, or both! All welcome, but spaces limited – we can accommodate 5–7 stitchers but as many bletherers as wish to come along.

Part of an ongoing artwork, the burden of care, for Woven in Govan. Please be aware that some content may be upsetting, as dealing with topics of stress, illness/COVID, isolation, death.

October Art Workshops for Kids

If interested please email newnarrativesproject@gmail.com. Please note places for these workshops are allocated on a first come first serve basis.

Lunch will be provided at all workshops.

8th October 10:00-13:00

This free workshop will be a fun and exciting way to cultivate our imaginations. Learning about mythical stories, landscape and nature we will create a collaborative scene, which will become a sanctuary (this word we will learn about!) to use for story telling, making art and playing. In this workshop we will develop our skills in painting, printmaking, sculpture and video. The workshop is aimed at 7-12 year olds.

15th October 10:00-13:00

An experimental watercolour and ink drawing workshop exploring themes of symbolism within imaginative landscapes. The workshop is aimed at 9-15 year olds.

22nd October 10:00-13:00

A free workshop for kids and adults alike ๐•ᴗ•๐

This workshop explores community-building through performing and image-making. Working together, we will be sharing our ideas and co-creating an alternative world. You will be supported to imagine a character and perform some of their actions! How does your character walk and dance? Or if you are rather proud of your drawing skills, you will also be supported to draw a little creature/character of your own and animate it. Tools are provided but come wearing something you think your character would like. Maybe a crazy pink velvet dress?

*All outcomes of the workshop will be uploaded to a dedicated webpage which you can access later. The workshop is aimed at 7-15 year olds. Parents/adults are welcome too.
