Hello :

CAN YOU COUNT ON THE ADVICE OF THE "EXPERTS"?

When deciding whether to support or oppose fluoridation, most voters are swayed by the endorsements of medical and dental associations. They believe these organizations are the experts, have done extensive research on the subject, and are guided by the science.

In fluoridation’s case, that’s just not true.

In October’s Calgary plebiscite, fluoridation promoters cited 27 organizations endorsing the practice. Of these, 18 were national or provincial dental groups, led by the Canadian Dental Association (CDA). The dental lobby, both in Canada and the U.S., has led the effort to fluoridate drinking water and has been willingly joined by the medical establishment.

How did this happen? From 1945 to 1950, three experiments were undertaken to determine the effectiveness—and supposedly, the safety—of fluoridation. The cities of Brantford, Ontario, Grand Rapids, Michigan and Newburg, New York were fluoridated and their cavity rates compared with similar nearby cities that were not fluoridated.

The U.S. studies were supposed to go for ten years. But in June 1950, before the studies were even completed, the U.S. Public Health Service, under considerable influence from the aluminum, steel and sugar industries that wanted to downplay the toxic effects of ingested fluoride, unexpectedly endorsed it, citing lower cavity rates in the fluoridated cities.

Within months, the American Dental Association endorsed fluoridation, followed quickly in 1950 by the American Public Health Association and in 1951 by the American Medical Association. The CDA followed in 1953. The die was cast. Soon numerous other organizations jumped on the bandwagon and have been promoting it ever since.

Please note that no safety studies were done in these cities on today’s known harmful effects from fluoride on kidney disease, diabetes, thyroid disease, neurotoxicity and others. And no long-term safety studies were done on any harmful condition whatsoever. Yet these organizations proclaimed fluoridation as proven safe for everyone, without scientific evidence to back them up.

That was the 1950’s. One would hope that as more scientific evidence was discovered on fluoride’s toxicity, these authorities would act accordingly and oppose fluoridation. Or, at the very least, they would call for a moratorium if there was a question about its safety. To the contrary, they’ve done nothing.

Consider just one example: neurotoxicity – damage to the brain.

  • Out of 78 human neurotoxicity studies, 70 have linked higher fluoride levels to lower IQs.

  • The U.S. National Toxicology Program’s most recent draft systematic review found that out of nearly 30 of the highest quality studies done, all but two linked higher fluoride levels to lower IQs, 11 at standard levels (0.7 ppm) in fluoridated water.

  • In the current lawsuit against the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for allowing fluoridation, even the EPA acknowledged in federal court what it considered the four strongest studies. All were funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health, which only accepts the highest quality research. Three showed significantly lowered IQs in children and one showed substantially increased ADHD rates—all at standard levels (0.7 ppm) in fluoridated water.

How obvious can it be that fluoridation poses a clear risk? Yet the endorsing organizations continue to insist that it’s proven safe for everyone. There are only two possible explanations. Either they haven’t kept up on the science, or they’re aware of it, but refuse to admit they were wrong and change their position. This isn’t science. It’s the denial of science.

We’d like to trust these organizations and the Canadian, U.S. and provincial and state governments that provide the backing for them. But when it comes to fluoridation, we cannot.

That’s why Fluoride Free Canada was formed. We will speak truth to power, providing the critical information that the public needs to make informed decisions.

FLUORIDE FACT

The Dental and Medical organizations still endorse the uncompleted studies done in 1950 that were to determine the effectiveness and safety of fluoridation.  They refuse to acknowledge the new science showing neurotoxicity to the fetus, and to bottle-fed infants that are given formula made with fluoridated water.

HOW CAN YOU HELP TODAY?

As misinformation is rampant with no help from the media, in the next two weeks, tell 10 people the above fluroide fact and ask them to tell 10...etc. and feel free to point them to fluoridefreecanada.ca if they want more facts.

Sincerely,

Dr. James Winter, Ph.D.
