April Roots Wrap-up

Issued: May 1, 2022

Whats New?

Community Roots is as eager as ever with all of the warm weather that we have been blessed with this past month! We have been able to keep ourselves busy with plenty of workdays, celebrations, and welcoming new baby chicks into our Community Roots family. We are also eager to be able to grow our team with our Summer Associate Farmer's Market Coordinating position. If you're interested, don't forget to apply before May 30th! To learn more CLICK HERE

As the weather has begun to warm, the green has reappeared, and we have been feeling extra thankful for all of the celebrations and work we are able to do in our community. This month not only were we able to celebrate our lovely planet for Earth Day but also celebrate all of the hard work our volunteers have done for us over this past year! We have so much to celebrate and be thankful for. One thing we are extremely grateful for is our board member, Haley, welcoming 20 baby chicks into the Community Roots family. We are excited to soon have them be able to produce fresh eggs for our local Farmer's Market but until then we will enjoy their presence of silliness, joy, and hope. If you want to read more about these little bundles of joy, check out our blog and video welcoming these little ones home HERE.

We have also been staying busy getting prepared or the Farmer's Market, as our board members and employees begin their GAP training to be able to sell produce this Summer! We are really looking forward to the Market season that is quickly approaching (Saturday, May 7th).

Volunteer Highlight

We are always overjoyed when we get to work with our friends over at the Archon Society who want to volunteer with us and help get our space ready for this warm weather! Without these students, it wouldn't have been possible to continuously sort seeds to be distributed at the Mount Vernon Public Library, start our seeds, and continuously improve the green spaces that we call home.

Volunteer Here!

We were able to share our appreciation with these outstanding individuals this past Saturday! Everyone was able to come together and enjoy delicious food by our firepit. Haley and Quentin provided everyone with beautiful music followed by getting some work done around the garden! We could not have been more grateful for the lovely weather and time spent with some of our most dedicated group of volunteers. We would just like to continue our gratitude for all that these bright students do!

1/2 cup honey

2 eggs

1 TSP vanilla

1 cup unbleached flour

1 cup dry oatmeal

1/2 cup dandelion flowers

  2. Blend oil and honey then beat in the two eggs and vanilla
