VICTORY CHIMES

Ship's Log

Welcome to our First Ever Newsletter

What's the Story Behind the Ship?

Captain Sikkema was recently featured on the Makers of the US podcast! Sam tells the story of how he initially got into sailing, and became master & Captain of the 'Chimes.  Fun stories.

If you've ever been aboard, and gone back to the helm to chat with Sam, then you know he's full of sailing stories.

Recorded on the quarterdeck, after a good day's sailing, it's a great listen!

Three Fourths Add up to One Great Summer!

Fourth of July Fireworks over the water are always great. We were lucky enough to enjoy 4th of July fireworks three times this season.

The first time was in our home port of Rockland. The Harbor is big enough to fit all kinds of boats and sailboats and ships and yachts.

We picked the perfect spot and enjoyed a great show! It was the perfect way to end a trip.

Then, we were front and center for the fireworks in Boothbay Harbor.

We went to the Boothbay Windjammer Festival. The 'Chimes was rebuilt in Boothbay Harbor, so the town is very proud of their work. They love to see us there.

That day, before dusk, we moved to the outer harbor. We knew a perfect spot that would give us a front row view to the festival fireworks!

The third time we saw fireworks, it was just for the fleet. We celebrated being together after missing out last year. Crossing paths with our fellow windjammers always makes for great pictures and happy calls and waves from ship to ship.

This time we had a "slumber party" of sorts. All the windjammers got together in the same anchorage.  That night, we had our own fireworks display to celebrate being back out together, exploring the rugged Maine coast.

We also had some goofy games together with all the small boats from the ships.

We're like a bunch of summer camp kids, always looking for a reason to get together and play games. It makes for a fun summer and some really great pictures. The one below is a favorite from last summer. Coming into Burnt Coat Harbor, just passing the lighthouse.

Love for Sail

We'll be starting the new year by making a new set of sails for the ship.

The zero season of 2020 makes the project tough. We could use some help.

The project doesn't just help us. We're training apprentices for the project. This way, for the next ships that need sails, there will be more folks around with the skills to make traditional sales for historic ships.

If you love the ship like we do, please consider a donation.
