Welcome to another update from the Sturt's Steps project team. Sturt's Steps a strategic project funded by Infrastructure NSW to deliver 12 elements to Corner Country NSW that will provide amenity for visitors to increase tourism to the area. Kicked off in May 2020, it is aimed to be completed in 2022/2023. This is our final update for 2020 and we will return again in 2021 with more updated information on how we are developing a touring opportunity for our potential visitors in 2021 and beyond! We would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a safe Christmas season. From all on the Project Management Team. |

Tibooburra Community Forum, November 2020 Community consultation is a big part of this project because what we are implementing with the Sturt's Steps Infrastructure must be done well the first time as this is not investment funds we will probably have again in a long time. This means when we conduct site visits we take every opportunity to meet with everyone we can to explore opportunities, conquer challenges and gain ideas from the community to improve the product we will be offering to our visitors. This past visit was no different from the project management team who engaged with over 40 stakeholders. The meeting held in Tibooburra involved an excellent discussion on the museum that will be constructed in town, its contents and how the planned artwork can add value to the stories of the town and region. |

| | Sculpture Trail The first sculptures start to take form before being shipped and put in location. Here you can see a progress image of the animals that are being made out of the leftover wire from the Wild Deserts project. Quite fitting since these animals are representing the great work being done by the University of New South Wales and National Parks & Wildlife Service in Sturt National Park. We're also excited to announce the design concept for the Sturt's Steps Sculpture Trail artwork in Milparinka is currently being finalised. The artwork has been inspired by letters held in the Milparinka Heritage & Tourism Association archive. These writings reflect the importance of reliable communication channels for remote communities - then, as now - to connect people, and share stories and lived experiences. The work will stand as a testament to the hardships and the joys in the lives of the women who had once lived in the town. | | |

| | Wayfinding Update One of the elements in this project is the addition of over 100 wayfinding signs to help direct visitors along the route. This is not only a tool to engage visitors on taking the journey, it is a reassurance tool for those that do not travel in the outback frequently. It is also a safety tool, to prevent visitors from wandering off onto station tracks and getting lost in the myriad of dirt tracks that exist in the Corner Country region. The project team has been working with the Tourism Attraction Signposting Assessment Committee to progress our application to obtain brown and white signs. We would like to thank TASAC and the team at Transport for NSW for their assistance in this process as its not everyday they have to assess a touring route application the size and scale of this one, not to mention the challenges of Outback travel. | | |

The Sturts Steps project team are helping by getting some of your product up on the site, but we will need you to update and make sure your details are correct. So spend an hour and update your details today. | | |

| | Support from Destination NSW As you would recall from the last newsletter there was a visiting journalist in the region recently, Anthony Dennis has provided some excellent exposure for the region and our people. In addition Destination NSW has just launched a touring program encompassing the Darling River Run and as they roll out other journeys we hope Sturt's Steps will be included soon. View the campaign here. In addition we wish to thank them for their assistance in building the knowledge about travelling in the Outback, by adding some of our 'travelling safely' content to their site. | | |
