Finding Beauty in the Smoke

Linda Sprau Art Newsletter

November 2020

Hello, and Happy Fall!

It seems very odd, to start into Winter Holidays without social events on our calendars!

Now that colder weather is moving us indoors, I hope to do more painting. Aside from the two locations mentioned in October Newsletter, I also have fifteen paintings available for viewing or purchase at a benefit art show in the Portland area.

The nonprofit organization holding this art event is “Komak.” Their organization is all-volunteer, and their proceeds are used to pay essential bills and household expense of cancer patients who are not able to work during their treatment. Several artists are featured at this sale, and their talents include pottery and photography. To promote social distancing, attendance is arranged by appointment only, and runs through November.

If you’d like an appointment for this socially-distanced event, e-mail me for details, and I will be very glad to promptly respond with information facilitating your attendance. Also, 50% of proceeds from any art or cards purchased from my website in November goes to Komak.

Most of us witnessed the smoky atmosphere caused by all of the forest fires. Though the air was terrible and visibility poor, it provided us with some very artistic, eerie sunsets. Here is a “plein-air" painting done in my back yard, titled “Wildfire Sunset:”

Another painting I'll share this month was done after a photograph taken by a friend. She describes capturing the scene as “hanging out of their moving truck with the camera snapping away.” The location is the Bitter Root Valley, south of Missoula, Montana, entitled “Mission Creek.”  The scene she captured was too beautiful to pass up, so I made this attempt at reproducing it as acrylic art:

Thank you for looking. I have added additional artwork to my website, so check it out.

Be Safe
