Tobacco21 in Cook County!

“I thank Commissioner Suffredin and my colleagues on the County Board for recognizing that the health of our youth cannot wait. For too long, Big Tobacco has attracted young people to a lifetime of tobacco addiction. This is a personal issue for me. My father passed away from lung cancer after starting to smoke at a very early age. Reducing access to these smoking and vaping products is proven to prevent early initiation and the chronic health conditions that we know come with it.”

-- Commissioner Britton

Cook County Commissioner Scott Britton passed his first ordinance since taking office: raising the minimum age for the sale of tobacco products, including e-cigarettes, to 21 years old. With wide-ranging support across the County, the proposed ordinance, co-sponsored by Commissioner Larry Suffredin, was unanimously approved by the Cook County Board during the January Board Meeting.
