VICTORY CHIMES

Ship's Log

Summer Fun

Big thanks to Connecticut! Connecticut?

Yes, Connecticut. We hauled out at the Mystic Seaport Museum this year. VICTORY CHIMES is the largest ship they've ever hauled out! And very popular too. Their social media subscriptions jumped by thousands to see the doings with the ship.

Big thanks for the big job done. They were happy to have us, and we were happy to be there.

That top picture is the first of her sorted and bright, back home and out on the bay.

The haulout is quite a sight. The whole platform is hydraulic. It lowers into the water. The ship glides in. The whole things lifts up. The ship sits on her cradle like a Faberge egg on display.

The museum's mission is to "preserve and interpret America’s maritime experience," Founded in 1929 it's the

nation’s leading maritime museum. It keeps the skills and techniques of traditional shipbuilding alive. Their facilities and shipwrights helped to a great job of getting things into "ship shape."

When we arrived home, a whole group was out at the end of the Rockland breakwater to welcome the ship home.

She's big news wherever she goes!

Great Schooner Race

This lovely six night trip ends with a new twist this year!

This year the race starts and ends in Rockland Harbor. Get your waving arm ready, because a lot more people are going to be seeing the race this year. The breakwater will fill up with spectators!

The first race was in 1953; On September 9th that year, Schooners  Stephen Taber and Alice S. Wentworth raced neck and neck across Penobscot Bay.

The day afterward, the Bangor Daily News reported, “Before the largest crowd in schooner racing history the Maine Coasting Schooner Championship was copped by the Taber by a mere four seconds in the most thrilling race held here in years.”

It would be another 24 years before the next Great Schooner Race. In 1977, Captain Mike Anderson of Schooner Stephen Taber rekindled the Race. It's been a tradition ever since.

Every summer since then, the Maine Windjammer Association has hosted the Great Schooner Race. It's a chance for all captains, crews and passengers aboard traditional vessels, from all over the Eastern Seaboard, to rendezvous for a fun day of racing.

We celebrate the community of windjammers, we celebrate the tradition of sailing these fine, wooden ships, we celebrate sailing together and sharing our great state of Maine with our lucky guests.

On this trip, we'll all explore and wander as is our lucky habit, then we'll all meet up for a Parade of Sail in Rockland Harbor Thursday afternoon.

The next morning, the race is on!  We set off with the breakwater as our start/finish line.  We always win our division - the three masted schooner class...full disclosure: we're the only one!

After the race, we anchor by a local maritime museum, and all the guests, from all the ships, gather for the awards ceremony! There'll be a soiree with live music and delicious appetizers from by the ships.

Six Night trips are always great fun. This one ends with a real topper - a meeting of the fleet and race to the finish!

The only planning you need to do for this vacation is to plan on having a great time!

Journey Downeast

Enjoy the luxury of 6 nights aboard. Plan nothing, enjoy everything.

To put a cherry on top, Suite 15 is available for this adventure!

Typically, for a longer vacation like this, you'd be scrambling around trying to work out accommodations, meals, activities, parking - for a whole week - Ugh. Do that during peak season and your "ugh" will be double when you look at the prices.

Now, imagine this -  you get to stay in one place, relax into it, and the world outside your room changes instead. Oh, and that restaurant that becomes an instant favorite? That comes along too. That is the essence of windjamming.

You won't want to vacation any other way - and this is a great trip to start that tradition with: Six night's exploring the scenic coast of "Vacationland" will relax and invigorate you like no other vacation.

You'll have the chance to go ashore on scenic islands for contemplative walks and immersive "nature bathing." We'll also visit bustling island villages, dotted with scenic homes and welcoming shops.

Even our anchorages are fun to explore. We have a collection of small boats to sail and row about when we drop anchor for the day.

The fun of zipping about under sail aboard a small boat or just lolling about on a casual row with our ship as a looming backdrop is picture perfect, memorable fun.

Punctuate your time aboard with fine food and delectable desserts too! Add that to the list of things you won't have to plan out and worry about.

We should call this trip a Vacation Workshop. By the end of this trip, you'll really know how to vacation right!

Classic Three Night

Featuring Louisa Stancioff

If you're new to windjamming, this trip is a great "starter kit."

If you've done this before, this trip is a nice refresher. And music aboard? Magical. If you've never enjoyed live

music aboard, then this trip is a high bar to start on. There's a reason Louisa's been aboard before.

You can do a lot in few days. Each day starts somewhere new, and ends in a lovely cove. When the ship stops, you can keep going too. We've got a "fleet" of small boats with us, so you can keep exploring when the anchor drops.

You will be kept in the style of the 'Chimes - treated like family and spoiled like grandchildren.

- with Suite 15 Available!

Enjoy this full serving of sailing and summer - in the charming style and renowned status of the 'Chimes.

A three night trip can go by (too) quickly. The "extra" night of this trip can make a big difference. We'll head out for adventure and dance with the other sailboats that ply these famous waters.

You'll have a wonderful time and feel all the more like a sailor with a bit of adventure under their belt.

The coast of Maine is great fun to explore and we'll do it with flair; fine food and cozy accommodations, 6'7" cabin ceilings and two hot showers!

Book and go, that's all you have to do. We take care of everything else!
