Nature of Event :

1.6km & 3.2km Open Water Swim Race  

Emerald Bay Classic is an open water swim event that suits swimmers of all abilities. The event includes 2 distances: 3.2km, & 1.6km.  We emphasize on a friendly atmosphere that is welcoming of all swimmers from beginners to elites.  

Race start format : Wave Start

Date : 14th Nov 2021 (SUN) (Reschedule Date)

Race venue:

Victoria Recreation Club - Sai Kung

Race schedule: TBC (Due to COVID-19 social distancing regulation, there will be different wave starts)

  •    Start time for 1st wave of 1.6km racers: 8:30am

  •    Tentative start time for 1st wave of 3.2km racers: ~10:30am

          (* Tentative, may adjust subject to actual no. of racers) 

Exact start time for each racer will be announced two days before the race.  Startlist will be posted on the website and racers will also receive pre-race email.  

Quota

Limited and will be processed on a first-come-first-served basis.

Precautionary measures related to COVID-19

Victoria Recreation Club requires all participants must get vaccinated against COVID-19 (1 dose for age of 12 -17 / 2 doses for age of 18 or above) prior to the start of the competition.  If participants cannot provide their vaccination reports on RACE DAY, they are not allowed to race and no refund will be provided.

All participants must complete and submit a Health Record Declaration Form provided by the organizer before entering the venue.

3.2km race:

  • Early Bird: $430 (until Sept 17th 2021 )

  • Standard: $500 (until  Nov 9th 2021(TUE), 6pm)  

1.6km race:

  • Early Bird: $380 (until Sept 17th 2021)

  • Standard: $450 (until Nov 9th 2021(TUE), 6pm)

Sponsor a Splash swimmer (Optional):

Swimmers can sponsor a Splash swimmer to race at a discounted race entry fee of $250:

  • 20 spots for 1.6km race 

Safety buoys (Optional):

  • $180 (Order online and collect on race day)

  • $250 (Purchase on race day)

Personalized Finisher Medal with Racer's Name (Optional)

  • $50 (Include shipping fees) 

Towel Limited edition (Optional) 

  • $80 (Order online and collect on race day)

Age categories:

  • 1.6km race: AG: 12&Under, 13-15, 16-19, 20-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60&Over; Male and Female

  • 3.2km race: AG: 15&Under, 16-19, 20-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60&Over; Male and Female

  • Age groups are determined based on a participant's age on race day

  • There will be wetsuit and non wetsuit categories.

Prize: 

Medals/Prizes will be presented to 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each category in each race distance.  There will be no award ceremony.  

Medals/Prizes will be mailed to participants after the race.

Rules and Regulations 

  1. Racers are required to swim with FREESTYLE (FRONT CRAWL) ONLY during the ENTIRE race.

  2. Declaration of responsibility is required for all swimmers.

  3. No one should join the race unless he/she is physically fit, and in excellent health condition.

  4. Cut off times

    • 1.6km , 48 mins

    • 3.2km,  80 mins; Racers must finish the 1st lap in under 40 minutes.  Otherwise they are not allowed to continue the second lap.

  5. Racers may be asked to provide proof of competence. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.

  6. Racers must obey instructions to kayakers, helpers and personnel of the race.

  7. Racers will take full responsibility and safety during the race.

  8. Wetsuits are allowed in the race

  9. Fins and paddles are not allowed during the entire race.

  10. SAFETY BUOYS are mandatory during the ENTIRE race.​ Losing a buoy during the race will result in disqualification.

  11. Racers are not allowed to take photos during the race.

  1. Deep Water Start @ Buoy1

  2. Swim to Buoy #2, Buoy #3, Red Pontoon #4, Buoy #5, Buoy#6 , Buoy #7 (All buoys should be on your left)

  3. Swim towards the pontoon, climb up the pontoon ladder, walk to the finish line.

Course Map : 3.2 km​ (2 Laps)

  1. Deep Water Start @ Buoy1

  2. 1st Lap: Swim to Buoy #2, Buoy #3, Red Pontoon #4, Buoy #5, Buoy#6 , Buoy #7

  3. 2nd Lap: Swim to Buoy #1, Buoy #2, Buoy #3, Red Pontoon #4, Buoy #5, Buoy#6 , Buoy #7 (All buoys should be on your left)

  4. Swim towards the pontoon, climb up the pontoon ladder , walk to the finish line.

Transportation:

Public Transport - Take Mini Bus No.9 (Sai Kung City - Lady MacLehose Holiday Village), get off at the stop of "Outward Bound School /AH KUNG WAN, then 5 mins walk to VRC

Driving - Public Parking is available at Tai Mong Chai road. 10mins walk to VRC.
