Welcome Back! This is the first issue of a newsletter that I hope will go out every couple weeks or so. The stage crew and theater program at New Trier will be a bit different this year and I think that this will be a good way to communicate what we are planning.
Why am I reciving this?
Who are you?
What is Stage Crew?
When is Stage Crew starting?
You are receiving this newsletter because you have worked on stage crew and are a current student at New Trier. We want to provide a newsletter while we are in remote or hybrid learning to keep us informed and connected..
Once we return to normalcy, this will continue as needed. This newsletter is a place to announce crew leadership positions and crew opportunities and will feature a game or distraction of some sort to keep things interesting.
I am Mr. Jacobson, one of three Technical Directors and Designers at New Trier. I have a BFA in Theatre Design & Technology and an MA in Performing Arts Administration. I work with Mr. Ferguson and Ms. Karczewski.
Stage Crew is a group of students that get together every day after school and on Saturdays to work on all aspects of technical theatre, such as building and painting sets, hanging and focusing lights, or pulling props and costumes. There is no experience necessary.
We don't know when stage crew will resume; when it does, we will enforce all the health guidelines provided by the district and the state. Additionally, some ideas are in the works that will allow us to be in the shop pursuing projects beyond our theatrical productions.
Weekly Vocabulary
Proscenium - vertical plane of space in a theatre, usually surrounded on the top and sides by a physical proscenium arch (whether or not truly "arched") and on the bottom by the stage floor itself, which serves as the frame into which the audience observes from a more or less unified angle
