Chico PD Military Equipment Use Policy

CC4J members spoke out at the Chico City Council meetings on March 15th and April 6th voicing their opposition to the Chico Police Dept.'s Military Equipment Use Policy 709. We spoke to the Chico City Council and Chico PD's obligation to adhere to this new state law. Included in the public comments is our opposition to our law enforcement's militarization, and we called for transparency and full compliance with AB 481. We also questioned the costs of acquisition, storage, maintenance, of the military equipment and the training of personnel on the list of Ordinance 709.  CC4J signed on to AFSC American Friends Service Committee's letter of support of AB 481 which included CC4J on the

list of 70 organizations in our state. We will continue to work with this organization.

TABLING FOR CC4J

Ann, a CC4J member, explains why she enjoys tabling:

I enjoy face-to-face, one-on-one connecting with the public, listening to and sharing the concerns we all have for the well being and safety of our community, our WHOLE COMMUNITY, especially the most vulnerable.

And, it's definitely energizing to meet people who also are motivated to do this challenging work, to do what it takes to promote significant change in local law enforcement culture and behavior.

In our recent General Membership meeting, CC4J solidified its priorities.....Public Engagement topped the list. Our community outreach Tabling Commitment is a key pillar to engage friends and neighbors on policing issues that impact us all.  We must work together to insure our community continues to embrace each other and every voice is heard.

CC4J  Tabling consists of two elements:

  •      our literature to inform the public on policing issues and help recruit new CC4J members
  •      and the human element that provides a combination of zeal, care, participation and conviction.

The cornerstone of a successful democracy rests on vigilant citizens, especially when law enforcement issues are involved.

We do tabling anywhere and everywhere...Saturday Market, the CO-OP, and at local events. If you know of tabling opportunities, and/or would like to help out in any way, please contact us at:
