Time to get down to the nitty gritty of it all....

CANCELLATION & WITHDRAWAL

The time of entry until 1 month prior to each event, we offer a 50% refund.  

1 month prior, 25% refund.

3 weeks prior, no refund.

We do not offer transfers to the following year.

There will be no refund given if the race is cancelled due to severe weather or unforeseen circumstances. Cancellation is at the race directors' discretion and in the interest of participants safety.

Additional merchandise cancellation incurs a $3 admin fee per item.

The race directors have the right to change/modify the course if deemed necessary (but you wouldn't know anyway as the course is a secret!)

RACE RULES
  • The course is made up of CP's (some manned, some not) and TA's. All teams must go to all CP's and TA's in order and click their timing chips as proof.

  • Any missed CP's and/ or TA's will incur a 1hr penalty (ensure your timing chip beeps!)

  • Any CP's done out of order will also incur a 1hr time penalty unless the error is rectified.

  • When entering and leaving TA's to change disciplines, all teams must check in 

  • All transitions to be carried out in the TA's.

  • Cut off times may be in place for some sections of the race. 

  • Team members must be no more than 100m apart at any time. 

  • Race bibs/numbers must be worn at all times and clearly visible.

  • Complaints must be in writing and given to  the race director within 1 hour of the team crossing the finish line. 

  • ​IMPORTANT: All roads will be OPEN at all times. There will be NO road closures for parts of the race that occur on the road.

  • Teams must carry all compulsory gear with them at all times.

  • Buoyancy aids and helmets must be worn in the water.

  • Please leave all gates as you find them, if in doubt, close it.

  • Teams that withdraw throughout the race must let officials know at any manned CP or TA.

  • Minimum age to race is 13*

  • Any competitor who intentionally drops any rubbish or intentionally damages property will be disqualified.

  • Navigation is by means of a compass, GPS units are not permitted - not even on your phones!

  • All race bibs and timing chips must be returned at the end of the event. Failure to do so will incur a $50 fee per item.

We have kindly been granted permission to use the land that the race will travel through. Some is DOC, some private, and some council land. Please be considerate when travelling through this land and leave it as you would wish to find it. PLEASE NOTE this race does not grant participants to future access to these areas, you can not travel on this land again without individual permission from the landowners.

  All supporters must also be aware to leave TA's as they were found.

* Younger entrants will be individually assessed and the decision made at the discretion of the race director. All teams with participants under 18 must have an adult aged 21 or over in their team. All college teams MUST have an adult aged 21 or over to race with them. If your team wishes to apply for exemption this must be done within 24hrs of entry. If your team arrives to the event  with no adult, and has not applied for exemption you will not be permitted to race. SAFETY

All competitors must: 

  • Be competent swimmers.

  • Attend the race briefing.

  • Inform the race directors of any serious medical conditions that may adversely affect them during the race.

  • Sign the risk disclosure.

  • Be aware a good base level of fitness is required for the event. You must be able to exercise continuously for a duration between 6-9hrs.

  • Enter under their own responsibility. Individuals can judge whether they should participate in the event, start and continue to the finish line. Nevertheless the organisers reserve the right to stop a competitor or team from setting off or continuing the event.

CLEAN, GREEN, EVENT... PLEASE!

We, at Big Bang Adventure, are keen to promote a clean, green event.

We will have bins for your rubbish and recycling at the start, finish and some TA's along the way.

Toilets are available at most major locations.

Please, NO smoking at any time on the course by competitors or supporters.

And, please leave all dogs at home!

RISK DISCLOSURE

I fully understand that I compete in the BIG BANG adventure race at my own risk and have read and understood the terms and conditions of entry. The BIG BANG Adventure Charitable Trust, its trustees, volunteers, landowners and sponsors do not accept any liability whatsoever for any damage to persons or property (including negligence) that may arise as a result of my participation in the BIG BANG adventure race. I am aware there is an inherent risk of serious injury or death whilst participating in the BIG BANG adventure race.

I agree that photos and / or videos can be taken of my team, supporters and myself at any time during the event and these images can be used for promotion and advertising.

I confirm my race gear has not come into contact with fresh-water pests including Didymo or has been thoroughly cleaned and dried prior to commencing this event.
