My 3-year-old nephew recently asked me what coaching is. How do I explain this simply I thought?

So I said, "I find out what people are not happy with and I try to make them happy". He seemed content with this answer! (He then told his Mum that there isn't anything that he is unhappy about. So cute!).

Although this is a simplified explanation, upon reflection, this sums up what I do using an extraordinary method called Mind Kinetics Coaching® (or PCMK™).

Another way of describing how these coaching sessions make people feel more empowered, peaceful, and happy is by considering the Johari Window. This was developed in 1955 by psychologists Joseph Luft and Harrington Ingham. The window has 4 panes (below) and can be used to gain information about what we know about ourselves, how others see us, and also identify our blind spots.

So what can we discover? And how does it help people?

From the perspective of the arena (information known to us and known by others):

People that I've worked with discover and remember their strengths and how they can apply them to resolve situations and challenges. During coaching, they reconnect with these strengths in a powerful way, and can vividly remember instances in their past when they used their strength with positive outcomes. Many of us forget our strengths. If we are asked what our strengths are, many people need to pause to think about it! It isn't enough to say we have a strength, we really need to connect with it in order to utilise it effectively.  Strengths can be situational, so one strength may help a certain situation but that same strength applied in another situation may make matters worse. Coaching brings clarity around our strengths and how to use them. For example, remembering a time when someone was resilient despite challenges can help them to reconnect with their inner strength and purpose, bringing renewed resilience and determination in a current situation.

In the Facade pane (things known by us but not known by others):

PCMK™ can reveal things that we know at a conscious and subconscious level. So we discover things about ourselves to really understand ourselves. We can also discover family patterns that we are continuing with our behaviour. Often people don't understand why they are doing something or why they are feeling a certain way. Once there is understanding,  there is often a sense of peace. We can also decide what we might like to share with others, and how to share this with others in the most effective manner.

Another example in the facade pane is how we deal with secrets that we hold. There can be a great deal of shame, regret and embarrassment that we feel about our secrets. PCMK™ can help to transcend these emotions so that we come to a place of peace, self-respect, self-forgiveness and self-appreciation.

The blind spot is an interesting pane.

It refers to information that we don't yet know, but that others do know about us.

In a recent coaching session, a client discovered that she was feeling rejected because of the perceived lack of support that she had. But during the coaching session, the discovery was that in fact, people around her had a great deal of respect for her as a person and what she does! She could let go of her feelings of being rejected by them because, in fact, they weren't rejecting her. She could reclaim her power and forgive those who she felt unsupported by.

Another interesting pane is the unknown pane.

This refers to information not known to ourselves, and not known to others.

In PCMK™ we connect with our subconscious and superconscious mind to access information that is of great benefit to us!

Here's an example from a recent coaching session. The client stated, "Too many choices, don't know what to pick, don't know what's best for me." So when we went into discovery mode so that the client could truly figure out what was best in that particular situation, the solution was to "retain hope!" and to keep persevering towards this particular goal. When starting the coaching session, she was ready to give up on working towards her goal, based on the information that was consciously available to her. The client made the choice to persevere by accessing the superconscious to discover information she could utilise for her and her family, and to gain a sense of direction.

For 2021, I invite you to focus on upliftment. Don't keep holding onto pain, shame, fear, hurt and resentment. We are all human, we all err. What is important is how we pick ourselves up, and how we move forward in life.

"Kindness makes us better, not bitter" is a true saying. BUT we must remember to apply kindness to ourselves. This is imperative.

When we are kind to ourselves, it builds a foundation that creates bridges of respect, love and connection to ourselves and to other people in our community - at work with our colleagues, at home with our spouse and our children, with our extended family etc.

I hope you had a chance to view my website! If you would like to contribute any testimonials I would love to hear from you : )

Wishing you much peace of heart and mind, and harmony in your life.

Best wishes,
