Good News!

Corvid -19 infections are reducing in  Kenya and the curve is  flattening!

 

Businesses are recovering and on the way to returning back to normal .

WOMEN LEADING IN MANAGEMENT 

 

 KENYA

 

Carol Koech  

 

Appointed as the  Country President, East Africa at Schneider Electric, starting from August 2020 .

Carol is an Electrical Engineer and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Nairobi and  an MBA from Strathmore University.  Prior to the current role, she held director roles in Building Segment and Sustainable Development  at the same company.

Prior to joining Schneider Electric, she held commercial roles at General Electric and Unilever. She is currently a mentor at YALI.   

 

Agnes Gathaiya

 

Appointed as Country Director for East Africa at Google, starting from August 2020. Agnes has 13 years consulting experience from Deloitte and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Bryn Mawr College  and an MBA from USIU/Columbia University. Prior to the current role, Agnes worked as the Chief Executive Officer at Pesalink. Pesalink is an integrated payment services platform, enabling interbank money transfer in real time through the phone, internet, ATM, agency, and branch.

 

 

 Priscilla Muhiu

 

Appointed as General Manager for Glovo,starting from August 2020.Glovo is an on-demand delivery platform that opened office in Kenya in 2019. Priscilla holds a Bachelor's degree in  Food Science and  Technology from University of Nairobi and an MBA from Strathmore University .

Previously she worked as the  African Marketing head at the same company. Before joining Glovo, she worked at Sendy and OLX.   

 

 

 

 

Rita Kavashe

 

Appointed as the new British American Tobacco(BAT) Kenya Board Chairperson effective from September 2020.

She is the first woman to hold this position at BAT. Rita brings a wealth of management experience from Isuzu East Africa, where she is currently the Managing Director. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Education from Moi University and an MBA from University of Nairobi.  

 

 

Rebecca Miano

 

Rebecca joined World Bank Group's Advisory Council on Gender and Development as from July 2020.

Rebecca is  the Managing Director and  CEO at Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC (KenGen), where she has been  instrumental in the launch of Pink Energy, a women development program in large and mega projects in the energy sector. She holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree with Honors, a Diploma in Law and post-graduate studies in Comparative Law.

 

 

 

ETHIOPIA 

 

Rediet Abebe

 

Announced as the winner of World’s Finest Dissertation Award in August 2020. 

Rediet is a junior fellow at Harvard University Society of Fellows. In 2019 she was honoured as the World’s Top 35 Innovators Under the age of 35.

She studied at Addis Ababa for her primary and secondary education and later went to  Harvard University, University of Cambridge and Cornell University.

 

NEW TECHNOLOGIES 

TELKOM

 

Telkom launched a new low cost 4G smartphone as part of the Kaduda series. The Kaduda 4G phone is called Kaduda T-Smart, costing Ksh 3,100. The phone runs on KaiOS operating system.

Safaricom has launched a USSD code: *334# for MPESA. The new feature enables customers to confirm the transaction details before completing the transaction, reducing mistakes and reversals.

KENYATTA UNIVERSITY TEACHING, REFERRAL AND RESEARCH HOSPITAL 

 

On 10th September 2020 President Uhuru Kenyatta commissioned the new level 6 hospital with 650 bed capacity.

He also laid a foundation stone for an Integrated Molecular Imaging Centre for diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
